Why do some people feel that if a phone is ringing or someone is knocking at the door, they *must* answer it?
I can't stand talking on the phone. I have a pre-paid cell phone, and a grand total of about 4 people have the number. I use it for emergencies and personal business. I do not chat on the phone. I just don't. So, if it rings, 9 times out of 10, I'm not expecting a call. So not only do I usually not answer, 99% of the times that it rings, I don't even look to see who it is. Drives my bf up a wall. He can't stand that I refuse to go running to the phone if it rings. I also don't answer the door if I'm not expecting anyone. Usually, if somebody knocks and we're not expecting anyone, it's either a nosy neighbor or somebody selling something. And I don't care to get roped into a conversation with either. The bf also has a hard time extrapolating himself from salesman spiels. I think he understands the door thing now, but he still seems to think of a ringing phone as a summons. My philosophy is - my phone is there for my convenience, not yours. ![]() |
