Default Wait....

As exciting as these 'gems' are...it's best not to bid until the very last second, especially when there's a sniper in the mix. I've been eBaying since 1997 and learned very quickly that if I wanted something really bad I had to play it cool and wait. This gives the impression that the item(s) in question aren't going to sell and the sniper relaxes. If you're willing to pay a large amount for these treasured tapes...don't place any bids until the very end (you're only outbidding yourself each time you do and it's counter productive) I'd be willing to kick in a fair share as long as the bidder plays it cool and waits till the very last second to place their bid ; )

I'll be watching these auctions very closely...especially the Neal Preston slides

I tend to agree with that... and after putting out some feelers yesterday, I have determined that most, if not all of the remaining items for sale (not counting the videotapes) are out there but in very limited circulation. I am looking into obtaining these. Another thing I noticed about this seller is that he/she is selling what appears to be a compilation of commercially available recordings from B-sides, soundtracks, duets, etc. This leads me to believe that the source of all of these tapes may be just as crappy as the ones already widely circulated. In a nutshell, I don't think anybody should be wasting their money on this stuff, especially since the seller doesn't seem to have bothered to actually listen to/watch any of it.

True that...we already have most of this stuff and the quality is less than stellar...it seems the seller has no idea what he has...

This is exactly what's been nagging at me about this newly discovered stuff. The Rock A Little work tapes specifically. They sure sound exciting, but upon further scrutiny & discernment the seller only showed the tapes with the so called handwritten components. And gives no other real tangible descriptives about their contents. Anybody can write anything on a cassette sleeve. So seller, please in great detail, describe the songs and confirm the song titles in the tapes along with the sound quality That seems a total no brainer and pretty basic, specifically if the bidding is well into hundreds of dollars if not thousands.

Yes I agree Last year a guy was selling radio shows like Stevie Nicks .Jim Ladd's Innerview show.
on cd's.as I find out they were ripped and burned from the master radio station cd.
at lease they were good copies.

I just got out bidded. but we got 24 hours left of the bidding.

Also i was thinking of this HBO tape at work today . according to the photos .the paper inserts look legit ,also a note saying return to Modern Records.

I have a feeling the tape is the same as it was aired on HBO because the max recording time these tape are only 60 minutes versus the 55 minutes that was aired on HBO. not much room for any out takes.still I wont quit bidding.I will try.

I've used 3/4 inch equipment to record Stevie and FM specials before the DVD recorders came about.broadcast quility equipment.Better thhen vhs and betamax at the time.

Those look really great...

This was probably asked, but who do you suppose all this stuff belonged to... Seems like it was someone really close to Nicks... I mean there's a cassette called "sharons tape".

Maybe when Stevie sent Lori back to Phoenix to look for Secret Love she brought back all these cassettes and she's hocking them

You're right! Sorry, I misremembered the reference I was thinking about. I just dug it up from where I saved it in an old email - according to how I labeled it it's from a transcript of an AOL chat from 1985. (?! I didn't know AOL existed in 1985...?) But anyway it says:

"Question: Hi Walshy... Theodora here... with regard to The Confessor... what was the actual inspiration for it and will you be collaborating with Stevie Nicks again soon?
"JoeW Live: Well, Stevie was pretty much responsible for that whole album-at the time I was insecure, divorced and she convinced me I wasn't finished. I hope we write more in the future."

So, I don't know what that means, but anyway - sorry for going OT but I wanted to clear up my mis-statement!

To me it looks like a fan collection mixed with offiicial stuff. But until someone wins one of these auctions and tells us what's what we just don't know.
By the looks of her, Sharon seems pretty well cared for. I wish someone would make her eat just a little more though.

Err what? When those numbered reels started appearing through the SN trading circles, there was one unique source to acquire them and he was most definitely S-E-L-L-I-N-G them. They were eventually widely circulated through normal trading but they were certainly not freely given from the get-go.

We bought the Reels, had them transfered ~ altogether cost thousands of dollars ~ and made CD copies for all our friends. The ORIGINAL source sold them ~ to US ~ and we GAVE them away after we had them turned into CDs.

At least, I did and dozens of my friends in the Group did as well.

Mike's referring to the very first batch - the ones that were circulated before BT's batch hit. The un-numbered reels.

But I hear ya - I spent a tidy sum over the course of a year, buying direct from BT.

WHAT ARE THE UN~NUMBERED REELS?

Sorry, my caps lock was stuck!

What reels? "The Dealer", "Castaway", "Julia", "Gold And Braid", "Rhiannon" and "Sanctuary" were the only Reels WE didn't transfer in the studio. ALL the rest we bought and transfered.

What am I misisng? 'Cause I haven't heard one reel that didn't come from our Group, aside from the 6 listed above.
