I know! This totally bums me out, as I can't see how Stevie's version will make it any better, unless she rewrites these God awful lyrics. Why oh WHY did she have to put this song on her album as well?

It means that a potentially great Stevie song might have been kicked off the record in favor of Dave Stewart's "I wrote this song in 5 minutes" ditty.

That Made Me Stronger Part II. Eh... well, maybe not that bad.

Yes, the lyrics are corny, but for some reason I get the feeling that this song was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. I'm guessing it was supposed to be in the vein of those corny old AM radio country songs, which helps to explain the little slide guitar interlude. I just hope Stevie's version doesn't become too serious.

I have to say...I don't like these lyrics at all.

Even though it's still not the complete song, I don't see how anything can save it. The lyrics are just too...trite and cliche! Boo.

God I love his story about Don't Come Around Here No More and how he keeps insinuating that they had sex.

"And I was singing it to Jimmy and he was like, 'thats a hit if I ever heard one!' and then he said to Stevie 'Now come on, let's get the verse together!" and I didn't realize that him and her were having a little bit of friction and she was like, reciting Shakespeare and all sorts of crazy stuff instead of singing the verse and Jimmy was getting angrier and angrier and angrier and they have a little bit of argument around the piano and he is going, 'Don't argue infront of my friend David, you don't know him!' and she's going, 'What do you mean I don't know him?' blah blah blah hahaha I won't tell the rest of it.

I just imagine that last sentence going, "What do you mean I don't know him?! I ****ed him didn't I?!?!?!"

Also... this thing they did together for HBO?!?!?!?! "Me and Stevie met again... 2 or 3 years ago for this little thing we were doing for HBO. And we got on great and I was playing Landslide with her on acoustic and we did a few things... Rhiannon (although it sounds as if he says Rhianna) nobodies ever seen this, but it was filmed!"

Also, "well let's play your version" sounds like there are two different versions of the song. I love her vocal on it, but the lyrics are very cheesy. The one that REALLY kills me is "Whats faster than a FAST car?" Sister Honey is faster than a fast car. Shes like a jet plane, remember?! I think I could appreciate it if it was only on Dave's album.

Yeah, I know. I wonder though about her background singers. He said something about them. Did they all rock Dave's world? I'm sure he had sex with Stevie. I just wonder how coked up she was at the time.

As for the HBO thing... apparently Dave Stewart was the host of a show on HBO called "Off The Record" where he would sit down and interview artists. HBO only aired the pilot episode where he interviewed U2. I guess they decided to cancel the show and the episode with Stevie never aired. Who knows what other artists he interviewed!

Stevie Baby, I'm ok with - because it's just Dave and he's using her song titles. But, this...

Ok, now that you mention it - it does sound like the old cheesy country songs that I love and grew up listening to. But, I never deemed Dave & Stevie to be another Porter & Dolly or Conway & Loretta and God knows they sure aren't George & Tammy. The thing about those novelty songs - they were usually upbeat and you got that it was a joke. This is not. And, it's not funny either. Eh. Reminds me of Lindsey's story of when they were trying to get back on track after BN tanked and the label guys wanted them to do stuff like Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes" (Loretta & Conway) and join the steak house circuit...

Oh well, I'm sure I'll be singing along to this when it comes out regardless.

I think she's finally wrote a song that might be lyrically worse than Silver Girl.

Although, despite the God-Awful lyrics, I find myself really liking it... I can't explain why either.

I think CTF is funny because these corny lyrics are delivered with such sincerity and conviction. That being said, I just don't know how this is going to translate into Stevie's pop/rock idiom. It only works on Dave's album because the whole record is a twangy hoedown of sorts. Well, after hearing what Dave and Glen did with "Secret Love," I can only presume that they did something surprisingly clever with it for Stevie's album.

While Stevie has a long history of idiotic lyrics...Welcome to the Room...Sara... They were always so bizarre, that it seemed deep... These are pretty openly cheesy.

Yet...

It sounds great!
