Ehh, Rolling Stone also gave Bella Donna itself 3.5 stars and rather lukewarm reviews back in '81, so the fact they've put Secret Love on the same par is just fine by me.

Reprise and SN will be pleased with sales on amazon and at Target, Borders, Best Buy and wherever else it's stocked. Believe me, I'll have every edition available.
Oh, and maybe even from Reprise, too- who knows.
I know, I'm sorry for my little outburst. I just didn't want you fretting for 3 months.

Yeah, I will be buying In Your Dreams in all editions, too. Even if the only bonus track from iTunes is another live version of "Stand Back" (or "Landslide"!), I will be getting every all editions. ESPECIALLY that shelf copy in the store and the drive home!!!

Hey yeah, that does sound like Mick. Those fills are his style.

And to be honest, although her songs on SYW were a step above TISL, I think her Dave have some real creative chemistry.
I think you're in the minority of those who feel her SYW songs were a step above her TISL songs. Personally, the only song I still enjoy listening to off SYW is Thrown Down. Her atrocious vocals ruin the majority of SYW (how can we ever forget the famous nasal snort in Destiny Rules?). Although her voice wasn't exactly stellar on TISL, good writing and good production carried it through. I honestly hated what Lindsey did with her SYW songs - Smile At You, Destiny Rules, Running Through The Garden could have turned out much better IMO with a different producer.

Grace was who immediately came to mind for me as well! I think it's cool how she has forayed into being a full time painter now. I've seen several of her paintings in person, and they're actually not half bad!

My two cents. Personally I love “Secret Love.” I remember the demo from a long time ago but it has been years since I played it. Maybe that is why the 2011 “Secret Love” sounds new and refreshing to me; it was not a song that I played for years and years. Also, for it being an older song she has pulled out of the vault, I like how it came out much more than the newer versions of the old songs that ended up on TISL and SYW. I’m almost willing to say I like it better than anything on TISL, so it gives me hope I’m going to enjoy “In Your Dreams.”

I too was disappointed with Stevie’s performance on Ellen. David pretty much summed it up perfectly. I still believe Stevie has the ability to touch our “heart and soul”, as evident of the new single (I’ve been playing it over and over quite a bit) but needless to say, Stevie’s best touring days are behind her. I would rather her put out more new music, where she can still shine vocally (enhanced or not in the studio) then for her to constantly tour offering very little that is new. It’s not to say that one should put themselves out to pasture just because we reach a certain age, because it will happen to all of us, but it would be nice to see Stevie transition into doing something that is more suitable for the person she is today. I think Stevie shines on songs like “Circle Dance” and “Secret Love”, so I’d like to see her do something more stripped down. It’s a little painful to hear her strain on “If Anyone Falls” or to be out of breath on “Stand Back.”

I do love "Secret Love" though very much, I can't say that enough.

I agree with everything here. Stevie's vocals on Ellen were so bad I had to turn the tv off . She just doesn't have the chops for some of her classic songs anymore. Rhiannon is the worst of that lot... it's so, so painful to hear these days. I too wish she'd simply refocus her career and delve more into becoming a very serious recording artist. Perhaps releasing concept albums of all different genres. I'd love to hear an electronic/dance based album from her, even a country one! She's got so much more to offer than poorly belted off key Stand Backs.

I loved Stevie's vocals on several of the Say You Will songs:

"Say You Will"
"Not Make Believe"
"Running Through The Garden"

The MUSIC on the album, though, was atrocious!!! Blech!!!! "Brilliant Production"??? LOL!!!!!!

Default another mental image

Since watching 'Destiny Rules', I can only picture Stevie bellowing in a closet in that house, with the singing bass flopping around behind her... while Lindsey giggles, and thinks to himself 'Now I've got her!!!'

Considering this is coming from Rolling Stone, and otherwise, I think this is a GOOD review. The only thing I perceive as possibly being negative is how the reviewer tries to date the song by linking it to the 80s/Bella Donna. Perhaps just to put the song in some kind of historical perspective. OR, given the fact that Stevie Nicks hasn't released an album of new material in 10 yrs., I wonder if her current writing capabilites/creativity are being questioned here somewhat?

Reading through the readers comments, one in particular struck me as being HIGHLY complimentary and promising, especially when it was made about an aging rock star like Stevie Nicks. Laura wrote, "I don't know who this woman is, but this stuff is awesome"

Keep in mind, they gave Britany's new single 4 stars. The song blows.

Her vocals, at least in the beginning of the song, just totally ruin it for me. One wonders how some of this stuff passes the smell test, and makes it to record.

I'm just saying it's good coming from Rolling Stone because typically, Stevie does not get good reviews from them. I'm not rating their reviewing abilities or their taste in music, as it relates to another artist in any way, whether they are good or bad.

I think Stevie`s vocals sound fresh and good on the single and it bodes well for the sound of the album as a whole. I fully agree that her performances of some tunes live has been a bit ragged in recent years - if Anyone falls, Rhiannon, Stand Back... However, her performances of ballads has been marvellous - BATB, Beautiful Child, Love Is last August, Silver Springs on the Unleashed tour. I really think she needs to focus on songs like those more and get away from the shouting. As for SYW, she really owned a lot of the stuff there, so much more engaged than TISL. Illume and Running Through the Garden and Everybody Finds Out and Thrown Down and Goodbye Baby are her best in many years, IMO. Destiny Rules and Silver Girl, not so much, but they are still so Stevie-ish.
