Sort of, but she normally tweaks them a little bit, so it's nice to see her insert a fresh "twist" on an old song.

Personally, I'd just be happy if Lady From The Mountains was recorded, it's my absolute favourite "vault" song (apart from the Angry version of Smile At You).

Remember we weren't suppose to hear those songs before they landed on an official release. So we have been spoiled over the years and know its all "old stuff" for us diehards.

I would like to keep Julia in the vault. Take #5 is the ultimate, and I don't want it touched. It's perfect the way it is.

I generally prefer Stevie's old demos to her albums. There's a purity to the sound that is lost, IMO, on the final tracks. In a way, Secret Love was a perfect choice because it's been largely forgotten. I'm really pleased with the way it came out, and think it works well with her new voice.
But, say, Julia? Possibly my favorite solo song off Stevie's ever. And as much as I would love to see it get attention, I don't think a new version could match to old demo.

Well, in recent times she has actually said she was not writing songs as much. That was the whole breakthrough that lead to TISL...when she asked Tom Petty to help her get back into writing songs.

I think what she really was saying all these years is she is always writing her poetry (which she then turns into songs). And even if she wrote a song a month, it doesn't mean they are all equally worthy, especially for an album.

I'm surprised that nobody has thought that "Secret Love" was the old demo she was referring to. I mean, we KNOW Stevie has trouble remembering when she did what, so it wouldn't come as a shock if she thought that demo was older than it is

I am not much for a lot of the old demos, I see them as raw material and imagine what good production might do for some of them. What you get from them mostly is melody and lyrics in a raw form only.

I actually think this Secret Love, or the demo is the tune that Glen Ballard called a gem from 1976. Her voice on the demo sounds very young...

That is what I think too. He heard the lyrical hook and knew what he could do with it. This song has Glenn Ballard all over it.

Agreed..."Secret Love" is the song she eventually found on cassette in storage in Phoenix, that she played for Dave and Glenn. The production of it reminds me more than a little of Alanis Morrissette's sound.

Agree totally. The majority of them are either "bleh" (i.e., you can tell why they were never recorded for an album) or have potential but need a lot of work (Secret Love being a case in point).

It doesn't sound like we're getting a crapload of old songs on this CD. I'm thinking Secret Love, Annabel Lee, and maybe one more. The rest will be new.

We are getting two more plus Annabelle Lee according to what she said she initially brought to the project. Lots of speculation that Lady from the Mountain is one of those songs. Then she wrote two new songs. So we are getting 6 songs that were not cowritten from her. However, I bet she gives Dave some writing credit for Annabelle Lee because of the bridge he wrote to it, which she loves.

So... it's Secret Love + Annabell Lee + Two more vault songs. And the rest are all totally new? Considering the rumours that the CD has 14 tracks, 4 vault songs and ten new ones sound totally fair.

I'd love to see Cecelia or If You Were My Love along with Lady From The Mountains make the CD. I don't know why, but I really think she could do Lady From The Mountains justice if she released it now.
