This isn't the only thing up their sleeve either. The single will be released Feb 3... right now the pre-order gives you a free download of the single, but in two and a half weeks, who the hell is going to be enticed by that when they can go buy the single from i-Tunes for $1.29? If I were to bet, I'd say they are going to change the pre-order package before it is released. Perhaps they will simply drop the free single and include a signed litho. Or they may come up with new packages, such as a deluxe edition which contains the documentary and a signed litho, or a vinyl with a signed litho and mp3 downloads the day of the release. The point? To make all of us who rushed out and pre-ordered it today to pre-order it (or a different package of it) again!
I think you've hit the nail straight on its head! I was wondering why they've given the single with the pre-order, if you buy the pre-order you're not going to spend out on the single again when it's released on Feb 3rd (unless it's a 3 track one with other album/non album songs). Usually with these pre-orders they give you an album track with it, then release a different track as the single.

I think its the album version, maybe it segues in to the next track? If they are calling it a single they really should have mixed it to end correctly!

To my ears, this tune is quite nice, it proves that she still can write a good tune. The only thing it lacks is warmth. I'm totally unhappy with the production. And that ooowee listen to me irritates the heck out of me. She sings great, but her voice sounds cold. For me, that's unforgivable with such a lyric. Good work, Stevie, but Stewart, go away!

But the tune is from decades ago - the song was actually written in the '70's.

OK, yeah, well, that says enough. Than she should have recorded and produced it in the seventies. The result would have been 100 degrees warmer. In the shade....

Default Warners Marketing Strategy.

Well Warner DEFINITELY must want the song to leak b/c they still haven't removed it from youtube. Personally this is a smart move on the part of Warner. They already know that only the "true" fans will pre-order the cd and get the instant download. So why not let the casual listeners get a piece of this fantastic song as well to generate more fans?

I am still not a fan of the production. I think it's very "2000-late," and will sound even more dated in a few years. I wish Stevie would work with someone who took a more stripped-down approach.

HOWEVER, and more importantly, here is what I love:

1. Her voice. Who knew she still had this in her? She reaches higher notes without sounding shrill. She's forceful sometimes, feathery-soft at others. The vibrato is rich and warm. And I love the crack in her voice on the first "leaving you here..."

2. This couplet:

I am not asking for salvation from you
I'm just asking to be safe for a while.

That's wonderful writing. It's sad, it's smart, and it's succinct.

So I quibble with the production, but all in all I'm excited.

OMG me too!
But the more I hear it, the more I'm annoyed with the abrupt ending of the song, I hope there is a good reason for that.

Yes, that is profound.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

I agree... To me I think there's more too it... I mean it's dramatic an all ending like that, but it just feels like there should be more to it.

I think it will sound better when we hear the album and the next song comes on it won't sound so weird.

I don't know what the proper punctuation is, but these are the lyrics I am hearing:

Secret Love- by Stevie Nicks

Planets ended abruptly

This is a radio edit, the less time, the more they can fit it in
