Personally, songs don't have to be "singles" for me to like them. However, I remember how Stevie worked so hard to make sure "Say You Will" was radio friendly. I'm pretty sure after all these years in the business she has some idea about how the whole works and the importance of making sure your album has songs that are single material. Do I think that her first inclination is to write singles? No. But, she does know that it's necessary. The trick is the balancing the two in a way that makes both the record label and the artist happy.

The person said she did not like Stevie's voice on it and that the song reminded her of I Miss you and Silver Girl. Nice songs, but not knockouts. She loved the production of the song though.

P.S. I hated Stevie's voice on Rooms on Fire, but the uniqueness of the production and arrangement, made up for it.

I think it had the makings of a third or fourth single from TISL. So If Italian Summer is similar in style with good lyrics and a good melody. I will definitely enjoy this track. I suspect the musical accompaniment will be much more sophisticated than both. In the end we probably wont even be comparing these songs.
well said. Silver Girl and I Miss You both are favs of mine. I think Silver Girl is probably more about Stevie than it is about Sheryl...and the sililarities between both of them.

I think its that some people will NEVER be over the fact that Stevies voice does not sound like it did on Rumors. ergo, "its so low, its so rough" peope were saying that When the Rock a little album came out. or when otherside of the mirror came out. i LOVE her modern voice. from blue denim on till now. yes, Stevies voice is lower. Welcome to the year 1986

No, the person didn't actually say he/she didn't like Stevie's voice - only that Stevie sounded "very hoarse and low" and also the only reference to I Miss You and Silver Girl was specifically in the guitar parts - per the person's post. The post went on to say that the music was different from anything they had heard Stevie do before and that the piano was beautiful and they were moved to tears...

Questions - What is the name of the site this person posted on? How come he/she got to hear the song? Warners exec?

The person who heard the demo posted on Seven Wonders. He/she said the song started with strings and guitar and had beautiful music especially piano bits. Apparently he/she didn't find it especially melodically catchy but was still moved to tears in part because he/she was listening to a new Stevie song. The lyrics "he was her lover...Italian summer" or some such were the only ones that stuck in his/her head. Similar in atmosphere to Silver Girl or I Miss You. Stevie's voice is described as especially low and hoarse - maybe because it was a demo and altered to sound that way rather than as a full production-ready package.
I would have cut and pasted it all here but I am not sure if that is legal or not.

The person has a friend who was a former A&R at WB, now works for a classic rock station in Atlanta. The friend said that Clear Channel sent this clip over, the clip was 1:10 long. The person told the friend over dinner how excited he/she was about Stevie doing a new album and that's when this clip was brought up. The friend had the clip on their laptop in the car and gave the person a listen.

I went to sleep last night, with some disturbing stuff on the mind.

What I thought of, and what I was feeling like, was...

'everybody loves you, but you're so alone
everybody knows your name, but you can't find your way home
but no one really knows -- i'm the only one.'

Can't wait for this new record.

Just great. Now Dave's not even sure...

David Wild - Note to @DaveStewart, I'm holding a nice spot for that new Stevie Nicks album on my 2011 list, so let's get it out soon, sir!

Dave Stewart - @Wildaboutmusic late March , Early April is my bet

It starts.

I'm going to assume "late March, early April" means May. At best.

Bummer.

Hopefully, WB will get on the ball. But, the last time a "shakeup" at WB happened, Lindsey's solo project was delayed... what? 10 years??

It's more disappointing than shocking to see that Dave is now alluding that Stevie's new record will most likely not meet the March 1st target date. Who knows, maybe they want to release it closer to when Stevie will be hitting the road from a promotional viewpoint.

The record is done. And now it's out of Stevie and Dave's hands, and in the clutches of Warner's executives and marketing dept. So I'll wager that the record will be released sometime between April thru June based on Dave's tweet. Ugh! Just get the record out, and start alerting the fan's and the general public alike when to expect it. Stevie is going to be 63. This record will not be competing in a big way with other major releases from newer and popular artist's this spring. Release it and let the chips fall where they may.

I was dreaming that she would release it on time and we might see another Grammy appearance. Just before she walked up to present an award there would be an announcement of her upcoming long awaited record from this rock and roll legend! What great exposure that would be for her and the record. Sorta like when she did the blockbuster award show before TISL was released. But then I woke up! Silly dreamer, you cannot know a dream till you've known the nightmare.
