If this were 1982 the above statement would be true, but since it's 2010 it won't happen. Regardless of when Stevie's album comes out it will get maybe a month of chart action and then fall off. The reason being the songs won't get played on Top 40 radio. As such the album won't have legs. A tour for an album that came out six months previous is not going to help sell it. Six months on the Billboard charts today is a lifetime. (In contrast Fleetwood Mac's "Fleetwood Mac" was on the Billboard chart for almost a full year before it found it's way to #1, today if an album doesn't crack the top 5 in it's first week, it's a flop).
Another reason why the album won't be out in October is for it to come out then there would have to be a huge promotional campaign going for it, far as I know there isn't even a title for it yet. Take for example Heart's upcoming "Red Velvet Car" the CD comes out on the 31st, they have been promoting this for months, they are currently doing five songs from it on their tour, they are being interviewed in magazines and are generally out there promoting it. Watch to see how well that does on the charts to see what Stevie will be facing.
When Stevie's album does come out, it was sell well during it's first week and like most other "classic rock" artists it will drop off quickly afterwards.
