Stevie has plenty of rock to fall back on, along with country, pop, adult contemporary, which makes her that much stronger of an artist. I still say that she has no competition out there, aside from maybe the Wilson's. But that is like saying out of the last 2 presidents, who was better? Bill Clinton and George Bush, Bush is competition by default, but doesn't compare. Crappy example, but point is, Stevie IS the Queen of Rock. Until someone can completely lay out the details of how Debbie should be, that is how it is. Does she deserve that title? Who knows. But she is the only woman at this point in music history who can claim it.

that's just absurd.

Debbie has more to fall back on too, actually. Pop, Rock, the first white female to top the Billboard Hot 100 with rap music, Jazz, blues, folk, punk, surf, reggae and calypso, to name but a few. If we're comparing what genre's each has covered that is. In New York when Blondie formed, rock music was a mans world and Debbie went there. She went there with Blondie and came out of it the most successfull punk band in history. Without Debbie Harry artists like Madonna and Lady Gaga wouldn't exist (I'm not saying I like them, but look at how successfull they are.) She made women in rock acceptable and abolished the taboo that went with her initial title. Lyrically, I'm yet to hear a Blondie song that is gramatically incorrect. And - I do know it's not 'rock' - Heart of Glass was one of the first tracks to be recorded on 24 tracks as opposed to 12 tracks (it may actually be a different number but the 24 is the main point) If you ask females in rock who their biggest influence is, 8/10 say Debbie Harry. |

Some people just seem to be considering her solo career, well when I saw this poll I assumed we were talking about both everyone's solo and band careers. Granted Stevie & Debbie weren't exactly in the same genre (Debbie/Blondie were considered more punk/new wave) but rock is rock....if ya like it or not. (Ah Iggy Pop). Debbie isn't considered an Icon in more ways than one for nothing. To each their own.

Oh, I don't know
.....I've always thought the "Queen Of Rock & Roll" was Little Richard. Or....Elton John. ![]()

![]() Side note: If you are going to knock Stevie for her grammar, get a life! Since when does true art need to pass the grammar test? Last time I checked she wasn't submitting her lyrics for a thesis. And plus, that's what makes Stevie Stevie. I love her little Stevie-isms. |

What's your point?
![]() So why don't you just stick to Ms. McVie and her proper English? Or better yet, tell Stevie to take some grammar lessons from her. |

I don't see how anyone could think Stevie has more impact than Debbie Harry or Joan Jett... the average person asks "who's he???" when Stevie's mentioned. In fact I've not met one person in this country who knows who she is... my nan knows her but not her name, and calls her "RHIAAAAAAANNON" while purposely sounding like a cat in a blender... Anyway, here's the official Queen of Rock! ![]() Note the crown |
