I didn't see her on the list..........but since Elvis Presley is the
King Of Rock'n Roll, wouldn't that mean Priscilla Presley is the
Queen???

Stevie's~Prince 07-08-2010 11:04 PM

She's 2nd on the list under Joan Jett.

Valid point. Presley reign was over though when he died :(

Regarding that list, I don't really see much competition.

If Joan Jett, Debbie Harry and Patti Smith aren't competition I really don't know who is.

That was hard for me as I adore the above three as well as Stevie but I voted for Debbie because she changed so much more in rock.

Speaking solely from numbers and commercial success, Stevie trumphs them. Stevie mind you, not Fleetwood Mac. Debbie Harry mind you, not Blondie. Debbie as a part of Blondie made a HUGE impact on the music industry, but as a solo artist......

Patti Smith... I don't know anyone who even knows who she is other than myself and other music junkies.

Joan Jett, lovely singer, but I really don't see the impact she has made. Anyway, I meant what I said more so towards Gwen Stefani and Liz Phair

Stevie has 5 platinum albums right? If Janis had lived on, even though her legacy is enough, she would be true competition.

Point is, Stevie leeched off of Fleetwood Mac until she gained her notoriety and made her impact as a solo artist. An enduring solo artist. People cite her as an influence, dress like her, cover her songs, etc, etc. That being said, once again, Blondie is one of the all time greats, but that is Blondie. Debbie Harry makes them, but she has never done anything too meaningful to the music industry as a solo artist, which in my eyes prevents her from being competition.

It was between Stevie and Debbie, so I looked just at solo careers. Stevie's solo career is far more impressive and successful than Debbie's, and I like her solo albums more (although, Koo Koo is growing on me lately)

Debbie is still brilliant, but she played the frontwoman too well to be a really successful solo artist.

I was disappointed ladies such as Ann Wilson and Chrissie Hynde weren't on there, but either way, I cast my vote for Stevie.

Apparently you can actually vote an unlimited amount of times. So you can vote for all your favorites (or just Stevie) over and over! Not to mention, you can write in folks like Ann and Nancy Wilson and Chrissie Hynde.

Ah I gotcha  and to some extent I agree. Unfortunately for me but fortunately for the rest of this thread I'm too lazy to type out a big meaningful paragraph.

Joan Jett with The Runaways (along with a select few other groups such as Fanny) actually paved the way for female musicians in Rock. At 16 she joined on Rhythm guitar one of the most underrated yet most influental girl groups of all time. If it weren't for Cherie, Joan, Jackie, Sandy and Lita there would be no Hole, no f*ing Spice Girls, no Bangles etc and Stevie probably would have been the victim of harsh sexist predjudice throughout her career.

I love my Stevie but Tina Turner has been regarded as the Queen of Rock for a long time. That is is as undisputable as Aretha being the Queen of Soul. Tina had 50+ years in the business, an inspiring personal journey, she has sold more concert tickets than any other entertainer in history and consistenly sells out the largest outdoor stadiums and arenas around the world. At 70 she still tours and remains an electrifying performer. Stevie makes a great princess of rock, but I just don't think her level of success matches Tina's. Her albums dont sell as well and she has not had as many chart hits. Her tours struggle to sell out 5000 seat venues and while I love her shows, she is not the fireball on stage that is Tina. For that matter, neither does anyone else on the list. Blondie/Debbie Harry came and went, they were huge at the time, but she has become obsolete over the years. Ask your average 20 year old who she is and you will get a blank stare. Joan Jett, had a few hits and had a unique image at the time, but wasn't able to sustain her career. Patti Smith, shes not bad but has never really been a mainstream artist. Gwen...Oh Please. Liz Phair, another great artist who has never had much mainstream success or appeal. Courtney Love would win if this were a poll for drug addicted rockers but really, everyone knows who she is, but shes not really famous for her music. Kim Gordon...WHO??? I think Stevie is clearly the second place woman on the list. But she doesn't have the same "brand recognition" that Tina has. I have yet to come across anyone who does not who Tina is, whereas, sadly I have met people who were like Stevie Who?...

Thank you explaining it to me, because I have been too lazy to really look at The Runaway's influence :D The way I look at it, whatever band or artist gets the fame first, gets all the recognition. There were tons of struggling artists just like The Beatles who didn't get such huge amounts of fame, same with Elvis, and it's still true today. I know many local bands who could blow up if they got that tiny amount of fame.

And Tina Turner, I adore her and all, but.....rock, rly??? O.o And also, the Wilson's so should have taken Gwen's place, even though I absolutely love Gwen solo, she is not rock. Give Courtney a few more decades, god willing, and she could stand to be "the next"

They aren't competition at all.
