^ See: Already existent thread that actually DOESN'T hyper-sexualize and make a mockery of bisexual women! http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/ ^ See also: A calendar! It's 2010. Sexuality jokes went out of style with ignorance.

Oh deary me. Maris, looks like we gotta open a kindergarten too!
I really am finding it hard to believe that you actually started this thread. From where I'm sat it looks like you find Vanessa's sexuality funny? That's downright offensive. The only thing making me laugh here is your immaturity. Seriously? Urgh, threads like this make me want to injure. Personally, I think it takes a lot to come out as bisexual and I look up to and respect Vanessa for doing so. People like you, sir, are - I think - one of the reasons some people choose to stay in the closet as either gay or bisexual and that sickens me. What right do you have to mock her? None. That's what. What right do you have to 'control' who she tells? None. I'm sure if she used a computer and/or read this, Stevie would react in the same way as Marissa and I. You've absolutely no right to bash her or her friends. |

Let's learn. I'm going to link you to a few articles about minority representation in the media because I'm guessing that's some of the only exposure you've had. I'll excerpt the points that are saliant to the bisexual or lesbian experience, but I hope you read the whole things because I think they might help you out a little. Quote:

Tune in next time for lessons on "othering," "privilege," and "the heteronomative patriarchy." Honestly, I hate to get preachy, but these are really important topics (although I may have been being a little facetious on the heteronormative patriarchy.)

What I don't understand is the ignorance in some of the comments/reactions to her announcement. Some say that this is just a pathetic marketing ploy. Others say "Why do I have to know this?" Their anger is very curious to me.
For one thing, she said this during a Gay Pride festival! Obviously she felt she was in a comfortable and accepting environment to come out. I don't see this as pandering at all -- it's just Vanessa being truthful to herself and her audience. Yes, her sexuality really doesn't matter overall, but it is an important facet of who she is. Why should anyone criticize her for that? It's so idiotic to see it as a marketing ploy. The comments just reek of ignorance and bigotry.
