Soundstage/Chicago because, even though it doesn't sound so good, Stevie is dressed appropriately & doesn't look ratty or tatty in her granny garb.

The Dance. Christine, Lindsey, John, and Mick make this version at least listenable. Her solo versions and the post-Christine Fleetwood Mac = blergh.

I have a lot of favorites, actually. They include:

Grammy 2010 with Taylor Swift.
4/15/2009 Philidelphia, PA
Rosebud
12/31/1996 (you know, the one that wasn't mass produced by Warner or Reprise.)

The Dance version I guess. As many already said, Rhiannon is just a pale shadow of what it used to be. The greatest performances were during the Rumours tour. It is still my favorite song ever probably. It's the song that got me into Fleetwood Mac, and you JUST CAN't top the rosebud Rhiannon.

Meh, The Dance holds a special place in my soul because its the first recording of "Rhiannon" that I ever heard. Plus, I love how she's visibly shaking in the end of the song... its definitely subdued, but I think this version is intense in its own weird way.

I think she does a good job on the Live in Boston version too, though. Eh, although "Rhiannon" isn't ANYTHING compared to what it was 30 years ago, I still think that the song has an impressive way of shifting to who Stevie is at the time that she sings it. I think its gained a little composure and class-- not necessary a bad thing, but its just not the exorcism we fell in love with anymore. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm in love with this song, but I can appreciate almost any version, even if its pretty boring. I just see "Rhiannon" to be a lot more than a song-- its a living, breathing entity to me, and it perfectly depicts Stevie at any given time.

Fine F+ for effort. But negative 100 Stevie Points!

  3. Crystal Visions

bonus
Yes, those.

( Actually, if pressed, I'd probably go with Live in Boston. But that's mostly because of the production values - - The way the camera swings around, the way suspense is built, etc. The Dance was nice but obviously a lot more was put into Live in Boston, production-wise. )

Amen!

Rhiannon Live from 1975-1982. All the ones after that: snoozers.

Wow. What happened to the Ledge? Back in 1997 everyone loved the Dance.

Out of those I'd pick The Dance

Yeah, she's completely absorbed in her performance at that point, it's awesome. I think the vocals sound great myself. But yeah, as I think somebody said, Christine's keyboards are too soft in this. Kinda xylaphone-soundin'

Not the first version I heard, but I still love the Dance version, even if it can't match those earlier performances like the Rosebud, Midnight Special, and even Mirage ones.

Also, love when she sings "Sky ky kyyyy" and "All the same, baybeh, all the same" and then does her weird little wavey walk away from the mic.

edit: failed to mention, of course, that I haven't heard the LiB version yet

i agree, the LIB seems more wild and less controlled than the Dance. I just wish she had gone into her upper register for at least some of the "All the sames". That would have made it perfect.

I have conveniently forgotten about the Enchanted version of Rhiannon. That was dreadful.

Of those listed, I prefer The Dance version. Like Dani said, there's an intensity there, but in a subtle way. Plus, I've always liked how she sang, "Say, would you even try?" Live in Boston just seems like the elevator version of Rosebud.

But really, she should just put the old witch out to pasture and retire the song already.

My vote goes to the Crystal Visions Rhiannon hands down!! That version really rocks and just leaps from the speakers as if your standing right there in the concert hall. Whatever Waddy and Stevie tweaked in the studio worked, that live Rhiannon feels ALIVE!

Soundstage, visually was gorgeous, as David mentioned. The suede creme boots and bat wings....perfection .... That's the the get up I was hoping she would sport when she performed on the Grammys w Taylor, But knowing Stevie, she didn't want to show up or steal any of Taylors thunder....shame.
