If I were in your shoes, I'd want to see this show too.

As far as ticket prices go, I can totally see them saying "well, you are seeing 2 HUGE bands" and charge $75 for cheap seats trying to make you think it's a bargain.

I for one am loath to draw conclusions about the negative effects of their presentation and promotion strategies without having any idea what they will be. Let's not jump the gun and make declarative judgments which very well may turn out to inaccurate, eh?

Fleetwood Mac knows its best interests better than any of us do. If this is happening, it's worth their while. They are managed by someone who knows the value of image and who has no desire for them to come off as "desperate," decreasing their market value and damaging future revenue potential not only for the band but for himself.

Therefore, I'd wait to see how this is handled before I'd start pouring water on blankets and chance being the one that looks all wet in the end.

All I was doing was extrapolating on HenleyFan's "opening" comment, which I felt was somewhat revealing. Its usually only the most preliminary, basic details that leak out before any kind of official announcement; if its been preliminarily established in kind that FM will be, in fact, opening for Eagles, I don't think its unreasonable to speculate FM's intentions/motivations, as (for all we know) this could have been the first hurdle that needed to be cleared for Eagles to consider it.

After all, we know that all we'll get in the official press release will be a quote attributed to Lindsey or somebody saying something like "It'll be great to team up with these guys and give everyone a rockin' show!" We won't get an actual explanation behind their reasoning.

We should take odds on this, because I agree with you that "all" of them won't be doing anything. Lindsey and John are out of there. But Stevie and Mick are long shots. If they wanted Mick for anything (but, hmmm, I seem to remember they have some kind of drummer of their own already), he would return for a cameo quite readily.

And Stevie would do it, if prevailed upon. I understand that one or two of them have powers of persuasion.

Holy sh** we actually agree on something!

I could see it being a "double headliner" situation if they swapped who closes the show (ala the Elton John/Eric Clapton tour in the 90s), but I don't see the Eagles relenting to going on first at any point. (unless they play Birmingham, Alabama and Stevie asks Don really nicely). So, it seems to me that Fleetwood Mac is "opening act"...not just "first on stage".

What else would it be about? If not about the money then I don't get it...

It'd be tough to find two bigger bands in 1970s, and neither Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles has seen any real drop-off in popularity in the ensuing years. Next summer the two behemoths will join for forces for a massive stadium tour, including multi-night stands in some major markets. The Eagles last tour, 2008's Long Road Out of Eden Tour, grossed over $57 million in just over 50 nights of touring, and last year's Fleetwood Mac tour took in over $63 million in just over 60 dates. The mind reels at what these acts will pull down in tandem but it's safe to bet that fans will need to start saving now if they want a seat anywhere near the stage. Dates as yet unannounced but the Eagles are scheduled to headline three nights at the Hollywood Bowl in April

Yeah. I just figure I only have so many chances left to see them, so I gotta do what I can. I like the Eagles fine, too, so that'll be all right.

I just hope the tickets won't be too outrageous. (That's me engaging in magical thinking right there, heh.)

Looking forward to something more official on it.

The other tour, which is only in the rumor mill at this point, is The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Both are quartets that were more famous as quintets. Fleetwood Mac's loss of keyboardist singer Christine McVie (to retirement) is a bigger deal to them than The Eagles' loss of guitarist Don Felder (who was fired). I imagine that this will be a greatest hits deal for both bands, and I doubt there will be any collaboration. There's too much jealousy and ego between the members of the individual bands, and probably between both bands.
