Record awards are most valued if presented to the artist, next up is to the producer, the the label and then insiders and radio stations. As far as I know, an artist can't just say "make me 40 awards", the RIAA presents them to those who helped make the album a success. The RIAA might give the artist a handful awarded to the artist or the label or whoever. By the way, the records on these awards aren't usually the actual album being awarded. It used to be, but it got to be too complicated tracking down the correct album. So they just have a stack of records and dip them in gold or platinum and slap the correct label on those.
I have the platinum award for "Rock A Little" awarded to Modern Records. Probably paid too much for it, but it hangs in my living room and everyone asks if it's a real award.

I couldn't say when this was but I thought I remembered Stevie once saying that the only award she ever kept was the one she got when Dreams went #1. I have a Rumours RIAA Platinum Award that was presented to Stevie, also purchased on eBay. I really don't think the awards themselves mean all that much to her just because that's not why she does what she does. It sounds corny but, she does it because it's what she's always wanted to do and she does it for us.
