I've never understood the poor reception this song gets. I love it! For me, it's one of the strongest tracks on the album. That could be because I'm a country fan but how can you not love Stvie with Natalie Maines?! The song just has such a catchy melody and the chorus is great!

"Rooms on Fire" not a good choice for the first single from OSOTM?!

IMO it is one of the finest singles of her career and the last significant pop hit single by anyone in the Fleetwood Mac contingent here or in Europe.It should have charted higher than it's Billboard no.16 here but she and the Mac were on their way to a slide by then .As I recall it made number 12 in sales here and someone at Billboard was surprised that the airplay did not keep up with the sales when before she had recieved massive airplay .

Too Far from Texas is one of my favs too--and I'm not even a country or Natalie fan...... I just like the song

^Those statements might be because I kind of like raw Stevie without lots of instruments around. Sometimes it's nice to just zone out with her voice and piano.

Agreed. I like the demo versions of those first three significantly more than the album versions (although I do love "TISL" on the album). The "Planets of the Universe" piano demo could be my favorite Stevie demo ever. Those demos just make me wonder why those songs didn't show up on early albums when her voice could have carried them in the same way it did in those demos.... if she had tried to keep that raw feel on TISL, it wouldn't have worked, I think.

Good album! I'm still going through the albums being a newbie and all and I definently like this one. I think I can see the whole idea of it being overproduced though, alot of background compared to her earlier albums, on the other hand I think too much vibrato was used on her earlier stuff should have toned it down! Anymeow....good album! About to do a listen through on RAL.

She was just trying to make it as modern as possible, I think. Which I guess sells these days, especially if you're in the 50+ range and needing a new generation of fans.... again, its sad, but true.

I like "Trouble In Shangri-La". In terms of artistry, I think it's definitely up there with Stevie's most creative albums. It hasn't got the folk influences that her music generally has, or at least they're not as prominent. Also, the "epic" of the album - I consider this her title tracks generally, I love how she's basically kept up this tradition - is magnificent. What an amazing song to kick off the album with!

I agree. The songs are all strong but I with the exception of Love Changes and Love Is, the production is very heavy handed. And as I've said before, her voice doesn't sound all that great on most of the tracks...it sounds far better on the demos. I like TISL but it's certainlty not one of my favs and I really need to be in the mood to listen to it. I wish David Khane would have produced the whole record...I love his work on Love Changes.

Overall, I think TISL is pretty great, a few notches below Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. The title track is one of the best songs she's ever written. "It's Only Love" is one of the best vocals she's produced in recent years. The duds are Love Changes, That Made Me Stronger, and Every Day.

Yup. Eleven different studios were used in recording this album, by seven different producers (not including the person who actually produced "Bombay Sapphire", who was bought out and literally expunged from the record). My legitimate beefs with Kahne aside, there's still a legit reason why Kahne named himself Executive Producer for this album.

It's her most listenable thing since RAL, that's for sure. The middle of the album (and by the middle of the album, I mean That Made Me Stronger & Too Far from Texas) is pretty dreadful, but the first 5 songs and the last 6 are decent if not great.
