Aren't they African American too? They were brought over from western Africa to the Americas. America isn't a country remember. They're not native to Jamaica, they're Africans in a country in the Americas so I would have thought they'd be African American too.

is THAT racist? or ageist?

i see a lot of people -- here and elsewhere -- who are quick to jump on anyone who makes such observations and call them racist and offensive. but is merely describing your experiences discriminatory?

that just doesn't wash with me. i don't want to live in some orwellian newspeak society where simply using racial descriptors and acknowledging physical differences among people gets me in "trouble." we don't live in a homogenous culture, so why pretend we do? almost nothing in pop culture or other realms of art and media has universal appeal to people of all backgrounds. so why on earth is it so "offensive" to recognize that simple truth?

thoughts?
Music is culture. Black people have a different experience than a lot of white people. The same for whites. People gravitate toward music that represents that common experience. They also gravitate toward their heros and sheros.

If you don't see a lot people of different ethnic groups at a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks concert, so what? It's their loss.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think that, at any point, ANYBODY here ever accused the band of being racist.

I agree about this thread.

Interestingly, many years ago someone (Tyrisha maybe) asked whether La Nicks was a racist because, other than Bobbye Hall, none of her band up until and including then were white. If I remember correctly, it caused a huge argument at the time.

I remember that gal!

Sounds as if she was more than a little misinformed.

Black musicians in Stevie's bands:
  • Bobbye Hall
  • Wizard
  • Elisecia Wright
  • Chris Cameron
  • Don Boyette
  • Eddie M.
  • Lenny Castro
  • Land Richards

And that's as far as my tourbooks go!

And really, hasn't Stevie said on more than one occasion that she's basically an old R&B singer? Doesn't sound too racist to me!

Was Wizard her bassist (late 80s) that had a thing for sequined hats?

Seems like any topic that can be deemed 'controversial' is **** stirring . I think this was a very interesting idea for a thread.

I ... never saw him with a hat on. I don't know.
He was (or is?) the bassist in Mother's Finest.
