Here it is from the Weedsport, NY radio broadcast in 1986. Definitely more "raw" and "emotional," as Curt said....
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5bvdgu I have to say that I love the Soundstage Sessions performance too. There's an interesting contrast between the two, as they capture the woman at different times of her life. During the 'Rock A Little' era, she was adrift... searching. Her life was no longer her own, and that was affecting everything, including her romantic relationships. You can certainly hear it in her voice -- she's lonely, fragile and barely holding it together, yet there's a note of defiance there. These days, she seems to come at the song from a different angle -- with reflection and resignation about her past, but retaining that steely determination. She's no longer a thirty-something woman, but she's not ready to throw in the towel yet either. She's still a hot mama, she's stronger now, and love might still be out there. Anyway, that's just my goofy interpretation of the two performances. ![]()

Thank you MacMan! This was a terrific interview--Stevie really does sound 'confident' again. This little Fleetwood Mac "break" has been a very busy time for Stevie. The rest of the band is probably back with their families, chilling out. "What's really going to bother me is when nobody asks for my autograph." I don't think that's ever going to happen to Stevie.

so very, very true. BUT maybe if she says it enough times, she'll eventually do it. At least some sort of seed has been planted in her head, I hope!! I'd be thrilled if she did just one of the songs she mentioned. It sounds like she wants to recreate the "acoustic set" from The Enchanted Tour.

? For the longest time I have been wondering whether Stevie has acknowledged/accepted that her voice is, um, different from what it used to be, or whether she sings in her current style on purpose. Perhaps she likes it better when her voice is projecting in that gutteral "honk" style, rather than the wispy/seductive chest voice she used on the original HSML. In recent years, especially after quitting smoking, I have heard her mention in interviews that her voice is "stronger" or more "powerful" than ever, so perhaps she equates power=good vocals. Or perhaps that's what the singing coach has told her . I wonder if, on command, she can just snap right back into singing in that Bella Donna style... ![]() |

Wow that was an awseome interview. Stevie seems unaware that this internet she hates so much has documented every single set to every single show she's ever done and she has not once removed Dreams from her set list.
I got so excited over her mentioning doing Kind of Woman AND Sable on Blonde in one sentence. She has every reason to be proud of her Soundstage performances and I kind of agree about that How Still My Love being her best vocal ever on HSML. Its way better then the studio version and live Bella Donna Versions. Rock a Little and WH tour versions aren't really comparable for me, its like apples and oranges. But I do think that there are one or two better How Still My Loves from 2007, one of them being the version from Youngston Ohio July 3, 2007 that I think one of our legies actually captured. I would take that version to soundstage. Funniest part of the interview was: "Does anyone Want My Autograph" Lowpoint of the interview naturally: "That was my word you know"

This was an audio only interview correct? What's up with the songs playing over the interview? Who the hell produced this??? Great interview otherwise. Although the interviewer sounds a little creepy.

This was an audio only interview... .I know, when I was recording it... and the music started to drown out Stevie I thought I did something... but nope, it's from the interview. I have a feeling what they were doing was playing back the recorded interview over the air from the previous week, and while it was playing in the studio, Larry Flick and his side kick were overlaying the music - to no great effect... It was too loud, and the wrong tunes at the wrong time.
They guy used to work for Billboard Mag apparently... He's interviewed or wrote about Stevie before... |

She sang the Wild in the darkest places in your mind part of WH but flubbed it a little cause she never sings that damn song. Grrr... She talked about how complex the song would be to recreate on stage and then she swithced gears and said she would do Kind of Woman and Sable on Blond.
