I think that in ANY genre of music, there are good artists and crap artists. Is hip-hop my favorite type of music on the face of the earth? No. Am I a fanatic of any of these people? No. But I very much enjoy some of their songs and performance, and I think these three people are all genuinely talented at what they do. Stevie has always had a love of and attraction to "danceable" music. She frequently discussed her love of 'Flashdance' in Wild Heart interviews.

The current "danceable" artists she mentions liking are the quality artists in that genre.

Lindsey apparently told Stevie he never really had the chance to tour solo, the way she had. He didn't really tour behind his first two albums. The third one had some touring behind it, and had a number of record company supported videos to support it, but it didn't take off as much has Lindsey would have wanted. Again, while he did tour behind it, he didn't "work it" the way he did the last two albums- Under The SKin, and Gift of Screws. Unfortunately, the record business has changed for these aging rockers. If he had the time to support his first two albums, he might have had more success. Hard to know. His head wasn't really into it at that time. He was more into producing and engineering Fleetwood Mac. He was also tied up into relationships with Carol Ann and Cheri Caspari and others. NOW, for the first time in his life, he really is into his music. He feels "whole." He's worked hard, and it's great that he is finally in a place where feels he wants to reach an audience with his work. He's still the tortured artist:

SO, since Stevie seems to be slightly in touch and a fan of dance music, with her recent remixes (SB, Dreams, POTU) I wonder how a entire CD of dance music by her would fair, produced perhaps by Stuart Price or Deep Dish. Sure her casual fans probably wouldn't be that into it but you can be sure the clubs would eat it up!

Agreed. Any song where the two of them worked together would have been good. I guess they thought they were accomplishing that by doing Christine's "Don't Stop." Too bad. They missed a good opportunity to pull into something kind of new--certainly never done LIVE with the two of them.

Well, um no, considering these 3 artists are in the current pop genre and Bob Dylan is well, not. I'm sure Justin, Beyonce, & Rhianna are very inspirational to those who aspire to write and be performers in the pop genre. Incidentally, Beyonce did win a "Songwriter of the year" award a few years back, so she does write her own music. I believe Justin does as well, if not co-writes a lot of his stuff.

Well, that's your opinion - a lot of people also believe that the majority of Stevie's solo work is crap, so I guess it's up to the listener to decide. Furthermore, any true artist can get inspiration from anything and any genre of music. Stevie has stopped writing new music because she probably has nothing else to say anymore ( I mean really, how many times can she continue to write about her and Lindsey's failed relationship?

). It's fine if she has nothing else to say, but we all know that she has a ton of music that has gone unreleased that for some odd reason she refuses to put out there. That is my issue with her. She chooses to do covers instead of her own material and chooses to re-release the same stuff over and over instead of getting off her you know what, heading into the studio, and laying down some new vocals.

No, but who IS these days?

Nobody who's well known & massively popular, IMO. Sure you have people like Patty Griffin & Bonnie Raitt who are classic singer-songwriters who inspire the younger generation, but they're more under the radar - there's no longer a massive singer-songwriter genre that appeals to the masses like Dylan did, Carole King, James Taylor, etc.

It's apples & oranges, IMO. Did anyone truly think that Madonna would inspire a future generation when she first started out? She obviously has. And like some others have said, Beyonce (for example) is not my thing, but I think she can write a good tune & sing the hell out of it. I may not like it, but I won't disregard it as crap.

Xtina has written some really good songs, as has Pink. I'm not a huge John Mayer fan but I think he's extremely talented. I can see them inspiring future artists.

Yeah, that's the way I interpreted Stevie's comment about Lindsey's solo career. I think she knew full well that Lindsey had released solo records many, many years ago. It was Lindsey who said he felt shortchanged on his solo career, when he made the comment about Stevie having hers since 1981. It was sweet that she and the band gave Lindsey the time he requested to do his thing for three years, to concentrate on his solo career. I mean really give it a concerted effort.

It's a shame Twisted is overlooked by them. It would be such a powerful song for SnL to perform live as a duet and would transfer to stage very well, in my opinion. Agreed! Twisted would have been a great inclusion in the set. Yet, another missed opportunity. By Stevie's logic, no new or lesser known songs should ever be performed for fear of taxing their audience with something surprising, fresh and unknown. And, true to her word, we never hear new songs! Storms is an annomly. She's really gone to the Vegas nursing home. Sad.

God, no! But I did say "for what THEY DO". It's apples and oranges. They aren't trying to be Dylan, and surely know they couldn't. I do think there's a place in the world (and always has been) for music that is straight up entertainment. Stuff that is simply good for getting your ass shakin' when you've had a bad day. And those three people do have vocal talent and that "something" that makes them enjoyable performers.

I know you're just being facetious, but I SEVERELY doubt that's ALL she listens to. But she's never made a secret of the fact that she loves to dance. So she would obviously have an attraction to that type of music, and I was pointing out that she does go for the quality artists in that genre.
