I don't think she ruined it. I saw Fleetwood twice at Konocti Harbor -- in 1994 & 1995 -- & they did GDW both shows. It was ultra-cool with the bongos & the slow build, & although I don't dig Bekka's gospelly vocal style, she brought some soul to GDW & she wrote a good song on that 1995 album (forgot the name of it but I'm referring to the acoustic ballad).

actually stevie's version on the behind the mask tour was a hell of a lot better than bekka's 1995 and yes at the time of the behind the mask tour stevie was heavily into klonopin i loved that tour behind the mask i though it was great.
Well, there you have it. The Mask tour includes some of my least-favorite memories of the band of my entire life. We'll just have to agree to disagree (or as the Mac sang in 1994, "We Just Disagree").

That's very true. In fact I'd say America may be the only place where Stevie is more popular and more famous than Sheryl.

Well, there I disagree. I don't think Bekka ever tried to imitate Stevie with her voice. In fact, it may have been that her voice was so unlike Stevie's that people were so resistant. Bekka reinterpreted GDW. She didn't mimic what was. Her version didn't do much for me, but neither did Don Henley's participation on the song.

Oh, I saw the show and I was upset about it. Saddened really. I didn't like them being on the nostalgia circuit at that time. I always thought they should wait until, well, 2008 to start doing that. John and Mick were there, but it wasn't the Mac to me. Yes, the Mac has a history of replacing members, but not having to replace that many at the same time. If only Christine had been gone, if only Lindsey had been gone, if only Stevie had been gone . . . but it was all 3 of them. I didn't like the Fleetwood Mac name (if not members) on tour with a bunch of eighties has beens.

It's funny how Stevie fans don't have a problem with Stevie and Lindsey singing other people's signature songs, but heaven forbid somebody else sings one of theirs.
I have a big problem with Stevie and Lindsey doing other people's songs. I'd prefer they not even do Blue Letter in front of me. But as for Green Manalishi and Station Man, I don't think Stevie and Lindsey's fans know the original songs in the first place. It's very different to hear someone covering a song you've never heard as to opposed to a song that someone else made famous. People who went to see FM because of the White album's success doubtless had less of a problem hearing them do Oh Well, Station Man or Green Manalishi when they first heard the ban, than older fans of FM had.

The Time line up got more backlash simply because the songs they were covering were more famous. If they had been doing songs that fewer people are familiar with -- like Beautiful Child, people wouldn't have been compelled to compare as often.

It's just like this Crash that Stevie does. I think people who know the Dave Matthews version are less receptive to it than people who have no familiarity with the song at all. I can tell you, I hate for her to do Rock and Roll.

BTW Steve, it's not surprising to see bank tellers in black dresses, but do you often see them wearing black cloaks? 'Cause if you do, there's a good chance that they are imitating Stevie. When you ask them for a deposit slip, why don't you whisper "Rhiannon rings like a bell _______ " and see if they spontaneously complete the sentence.

I agree that the tour was a bad idea. But, since there wasn't an album out at the time, and thus nothing to promote, why would they do a small headlining tour by themselves.

There are a few reasons I don't see it that way. First, Billy Burnette was there, and he had been in the band seven years at that point (save for a few months in 1993, when he briefly quit). So, there was at least one veteran on the team. Here's the other little issue:

Kiln House: Mick, John, Danny, Jeremy
Future Games: Mick, John, Danny, Christine, Welch

Bare Trees: Mick, John, Danny, Christine, Welch
Penguin: Mick, John, Christine, Welch, Weston, Walker

Heroes Are Hard To Find: Mick, John, Christine, Welch
Fleetwood Mac: Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, Lindsey

Tango In The Night: Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, Lindsey
Behind The Mask: Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, Billy, Rick

Behind The Mask: Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, Billy, Rick
Time: Behind The Mask: Mick, John, Christine, Billy, Bekka, Mason

See the pattern? Every time they've had to add new people post-Kiln House, there have always been two new featured members on the following album. The only difference with Time is that they lost Stevie and Rick, but added Bekka and Dave. Christine was still in the band, just not on the road.

No DUFFY?
As much as I like Duffy, my suggestion was meant as a joke. I don't want them to add anyone to the Mac, unless of course they could persuade Christine to come back.

For me there's only 3 good Fleetwood Mac's.

1. Peter Green's.
2. Lindsey, Stevie, and Christine.
3. Lindsey and Stevie.

The other various versions are boring.

And while I'm ranting, I think they should trim down the band. It's like some big traveling circus. Lindsey's solo tours proved you don't need all the extras. So how about.....

1. Lindsey
2. Stevie
3. John
4. Mick
5. A rhythm guitarist
6. A keyboardist

Enough?

Duffy has the most annoying voice heard in recent years.

And Sheryl Crow is a beautiful woman, but she's not in the Mac.

I so totally agree. It's not fair that we have to pay big bucks to watch them play kareoke.

Why even bother with a rhythm guitarist for every number? The band used to add rhythm guitar on three or four songs a set, not the whole thing.

As for #6, the band I suppose does need someone playing some keyboard, but as far as I'm concerned does not need that keyboardist to operate a workstation with dozens of triggered patches & FX & all sorts of stupid stuff. Why should Fleetwood Mac sound like other rock bands? The hardware onstage that's in constant use throughout the set makes Fleetwood Mac indistinguishable from the ... Phil Collins band.

Can any of you tell the difference between Lenny on congas & Taku on congas? How about Brett on boards & Dan Garfield on boards & Steve Thoma on boards? How about Carlos on rhythm guitar & Neale on rhythm guitar?

It all blends together in the listener's brain. These guys are all skillful technicians & accomplished music performers, but none of them has the idiosyncrasies that make a guy like Mick Fleetwood or Lindsey Buckingham immediately recognizable.

Why has Fleetwood Mac been stripping itself of its special personal qualities for so many years? It should have been emphasizing those qualities, not burying them under "smoothly professional."

I definitely agree with this, except that I can definitely tell the difference between Carlos and any other guitar player. I would rather have any other guitar player. Carols is always like a half of a second behind everyone else. I always know when it's him playing.

For 40 years Stevie's spun an incredibly magical aura that Crow could never, never, never, never, never, never even come close to. Never. That's not neccessarily a knock against Crow. She's just never going to be in Stevie's league -- but then, who is?

OOps sorry, next time I will be thearetical in the tittle. :-)

Lighten up! Just having a bit of fun. "Absurdly Lame" ??? harsh and very judgmental. Maybe next time you see a post you don't like you can skip it?

I am sorry i should have stayed and watched the rest of the show back in 1995 so it is unfair showf or me to say that Bekka ruined stevie's songs that is unfair of me to say since i didnt stay to see the rest of the show so I apologize on that and Yes I did enjoy the mask tour still even though stevie was not in her best form with lathargic performances on that tour due to her klonopin addiction problem which put her in that state of mind.
