Very true, very well stated. Exactly the same as many peoples resentment towards Rick and Billy for stepping in when the beloved Lindsey backed out of the Tango Tour. FM fans are an emotional lot.

What seems different here, though, is that Sheryl Crow didn't sound like she was offering to fill the void of Christine's departure -- she came across more as wanting to jump right to the front and make it, like, Sheryl Crow with Fleetwood Mac.. Or maybe that was just my perception....

I wasn't at all shocked. After about a month of the record company not promoting it, I figured it was DOA as far as they were concerned. Mick and John were miffed, to say the least. But, then again, it's not like they toured behind the album. And, if I were the record company and I knew that Christine had quit the band, Bekka & Billy were heading to Nashville, and that the ice between Mick and Lindsey had thawed, especially in light of the Eagles and Zepplin (sort of) reunions, why throw more money into the project? So that Fleetwood Mac could become a glorified version of the Dave Mason Band?

See, Stevie toured behind her album and worked the press to sell it. It didn't work, but at least she tried, which is why it got some results.

Lindsey was the big loser in all of it. He made videos, worked the press, and toured behind OOTC, and it sold about the same as Time. I suspect that's why he was willing to reconcile with the band.

Considering Time and the Twister soundtrack were released seven months apart, I think the sales numbers say more about the reunion than whatever bad blood may have existed.

I was never bothered by any of the switches. I LOVE that about Fleetwood Mac. U just kinda never know who's gonna be there. I love Fleetwood Mac with anybody in it really. (and I am Admittedly a fan of Stevies first and formost) But I think Rick Vito is awesome. I never got the impression that Sheryl Crow was trying to "take over", or "replace" anyone, it just seemed like YET ANOTHER Fleetwood Mac recruit. Witch i only think would have made the saga more interesting, continually.

yes i think it was in 1994 or so they toured as a 70's rock tour along with Pat Benatar, Reo Speed Wagon and Orleans I believe it was terrible they were the last two go on and after 2 or 3 songs people were leaving while fleetwood mac was still performing terrible version and beka is no stevie nicks by far she was trying to imitate her too very very bad. I really don't know what mick fleetwood was thinking when he toured that time the best part of that show was pat benatar and she was the second to perform orleans performed first. i was very disapointed i knew before they came on stevie was not in the group i am sorry i want the real fleetwood mac not some people trying to be fleetwood mac it was a crazy thing mick did to tour at that time and they did tank big time.

Actually, they opened for Crosby, Stills, & Nash in 1994. The crowd at that show actually felt so positive about the Mac that many were commenting that they thought Fleetwood Mac should have been the headliner.

The thing with Benatar and REO was a lame idea. But, it's not like the album was out, so most Fleetwood Mac fans I talked to weren't that upset about it. In fact, the only people who ever get upset by it are Lindsey and Stevie fans who didn't actually see it.

That was not my experience, and I saw them twice. In my opinion, the versions they were doing were much better than the 1990 shows. Billy said on his Q&A years ago that the response to Bekka was overwhelmingly positive at most shows.

If anything, Bekka was doing more Christine material than Stevie Nicks material. For the most part, they only had Bekka doing Gold Dust Woman as far as Stevie material. And I liked that version. It was very different. It was fresh, especially after the horrid versions Stevie did during the 1990 tour.

It's not like they were touring behind anything. The album came out after they stopped touring. And, I have no problem with people covering old material. It's been going on since Bob Welch joined the band. The band has gone through changes in the past, but played on. The new kids have had to play the old kids' material. Lindsey had to do a lot of Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, and Peter Green songs when he joined the band. Was he pretending to be Fleetwood Mac?

well i did see the show then it was in 1995 they played at the meadows in hartford from i saw if she was the blonde up front with billy burnette she was dressed up like stevie and trying to sing like stevie im sorry it didn't cut it for me at all and pretty much the rest of the venue as well i left in the middle of gold dust woman i believe not sure i want to guess it was the third song there lots of people leaving the arena as well i love fleetwood mac all versions really but it would have been different if bekka was not trying to fill stevie's boots cause she aint no stevie nicks the show sucked pat benatar, reo speed wagon and orleans were great pat was the high light of the show and I am a die hard fleetwood mac fan I am sorry the version of 1995 band of fleetwood mac sucked and it showed.

Bekka ruined gold dust woman i tell ya on that anything she sang that was a stevie nicks song mick fleetwood should be ashamed to have her try to be stevie nicks. actually stevie's version on the behind the mask tour was a hell of a lot better than bekka's 1995 and yes at the time of the behind the mask tour stevie was heavily into klonopin i loved that tour behind the mask i though it was great. It's different when you have new people join the group let them be there own person and not try to be someone else because that particular person in the band was not a member at that time that is a draw for the band to make money and we all know that person is Stevie Nicks and I am sorry you can't replace Stevie Nicks and expect sell out venues.

What? It's not like Bekka went out in chiffon and twirled. Was Mick supposed to pretend that Stevie had never been in the band? That seems dysfunctional at best, if not altogether disrespectful to Stevie. I mean, what would that have said about the legacy of Stevie Nicks if Fleetwood Mac made it like she had never been in the band? That she was so unimportant that we're not going to do anymore of her songs?

Of course, I could be a real a-hole and say "How dare Stevie have somebody other than John McVie play on Dreams, Angel, and Gold Dust Woman. How dare she try to replace that brilliance with some hack bassist."

Better still, how dare Stevie sing Christine's songs on the Say You Will tour? Stevie ruined Don't Stop. I mean, at least Bekka got the lyrics right.

Eh, I was there for both, too young at the time to drink at either, and that's not at all how I remember it. Bekka had energy with the song, Stevie sounded like she was falling asleep and seemed to yell out things during that song as if to wake herself up. I loved how fresh the song sounded with Bekka. I really loved that arrangement. To be sure, I think Stevie totally got her game back by 1997.

Whenever a new person joins the band, they have to do the old person's songs. When they first joined the band, Stevie and Lindsey had to do Danny's signature song Station Man, Bob signature song Hypnotized, and one of Peter Green's signature songs The Green Manalishi. It's funny how Stevie fans don't have a problem with Stevie and Lindsey singing other people's signature songs, but heaven forbid somebody else sings one of theirs.

Bekka doing Gold Dust Woman was MUCH less tacky than, say, Billy Burnette doing Don't Let Me Down Again (even though, technically, Fleetwood Mac released a live version of the song).

Oh, and if you want to have a conversation with people, try using some effing punctuation. There's this handy little button located under the 'L' key and to the right. It's a period. It looks like this "." and it helps us understand where one sentence ends and another begins. Now, if you're asking a question, there's a special type of period called a question mark, which looks like this "?" and it helps us know that you have a question. For example, "Stevie Nicks quit Fleetwood Mac." is a statement, but "Stevie Nicks quit Fleetwood Mac?" is a question. See why they're important?

Bekka NEVER tried to sing like Stevie, nor did she ever dress like Stevie. Unless being a blonde woman in a black dress with boots now qualifies as dressing like Stevie. If that's the case, I guess bank tellers as a group are nothing but a bunch of Stevie wannabes. And, she only did ONE Stevie song that I ever saw. The only other songs she sang lead on that I ever heard were You Make Loving Fun, Say You Love Me, Dreamin' The Dream, and John Lennon's Imagine. Other than that, she sang Christine's parts on Don't Stop and World Turning, and got the lyrics right. So, exactly how was she trying to be Stevie?

Even in terms of style, Bekka wasn't trying to be Stevie. Bekka is a country-soul singer. Anybody remotely familiar with her mom and dad knew exactly where Bekka was coming from as an artist, and it wasn't Stevie Nicks. Again, it's like comparing Joni Mitchell to Mavis Staples.

Duffy is worse than Sheryl Crow! And that's saying a lot. I don't mind new members to The Mac; it's just I think there is a standard that should be kept. Rick Vito is a very talented guitarist and a clever singer -- sustaining that blues connection; Billy Burnette carries rock history in his very being. Bekka, as well, carries a legacy and she and Billy had dynamite chemistry on those songs. She can sang. Chemistry is key to the Mac, and I don't just mean the harmonies and duets. The guitar playing of Bob Welch and Bob Weston were sizzling, for example. Sheryl Crow and Duffy just aren't good enough. They're third-raters. Sorry for the rant. Fascinating discussion here.

Welcome to my world.

Anyways, I'm a HUGE Stevie fan, but I still love Bekka! As long as no one is comparing the Time FM and the Rumours FM, I think they're both great. So, one didn't sell even close to the other, but in matters of listening, that really doesn't matter.

I am not knocking bekka for her talent well when she came out singing gold dust woman with a long black cloak and her voice was to me trying to imitate stevie's moves and persona i took it that way and alot of people have i believe I am sure when they finished there set at the meadows pretty much half the people already left it would have surprised me at all i never heard of her if she was an established star then I am was not aware of her stardom though she was a new comer I thought and I figured mick picked up because she was blonde and thin and could sing. That is my opinion of that version of fleetwood mac i just didnt care for that part of the group in 1994 and 1995. I love all the versions of fleetwood mac from the begining with Peter Green and thru with Billy Burnette and Rick Vito and today as well.
