Sure you would. Hell, if you were doing that many drugs, you wouldn't REMEMBER half of what the hell happened. So, there'd HAVE to be some things that were fabricated.

I'd have three books of stuff about my 20's & 30's...IF I could remember 1/2 of it. I'm lucky that I remember so many details of the few things I do.

I beg to differ. I did a lot of drugs in my 20's and also remember a lot about that time. If anyone were interested, I could probably write a book too. I doubt anyone would be interested, though.

Exactly. Stevie is way out of her league and always will be. She's clearly jealous of her, and for good reason--she'll never be able to compare to Stevie in Lindsey's eyes or in any other way. Face it sweetie, your 15 minutes of fame are over, and this book isn't going to help you get it back.

Well, I am about 70 pages into the book, and so far she isn't doing much coke yet, and she doesn't LIKE to drink. We'll see if she ever does pot, as that is what really decimates the memory.

I am loving it so far. It's fascinating and cool to hear about all the behind the scenes stuff, backstage dynamics, and the like. Stuff I always suspected but of which I could never be sure.

Despite what people seem to imply, she isn't relating mostly nasty stuff about people. More than anything it is nuts and bolts story stuff about what is happening. I find it so puzzling, the hostility with which the existence of this book is regarded. And the suspicion that it engenders. All these years, no one ever wrote a thing about the real story of the band, and it is finally out there. Counter to what other people think, I believe out of all the people involved in this period, Carol Ann has the LEAST likely reasons to lie or creatively edit. For one, she has nothing to lose as far the band members go. Unlike Mick, Stevie, Lindsey, John, or other longstanding members of the posse, she is not going to screw up a working dynamic. It is in the compelling interest of all current members of that clique to NOT piss anyone off. Their friendships and livelihoods depend on keeping the peace. Furthermore, there is the legal issue. If she said anything libelous or slanderous about anyone, she and the publisher would be slapped with a lawsuit faster than you can say John Branca. I am sure the legal department of the publisher checked to make sure they weren't going to get nailed. They aren't going to put themselves at that kind of risk.

To elaborate on the legal aspect, remember Stevie threatening quite publicly threatening to sue Mick to the point of bankruptcy if he slandered her in his book? Anyone who thinks the band member's attorneys haven't already read this book has got to be on crack. Just going through the motions of suing her would cost her a fortune in legal fees for her defense. A fortune any member of the band has at their disposal and could part with painlessly. So, if there was anything that was a full out character damaging fabrication you can be certain an attorney would have been on this like white on rice.

I have no reason to defend Carol Ann Harris, per se. I am just looking at this logically. Also, I don't have any bias about any member of the band anymore. I don't have any emotional investment in the precious reputations of any them being tarnished. Or any Romantic illusions about any of them when it comes to either their art, their drug histories, or their record of dealing with other people. I don't think that is the case across the board here when it comes to what people have to say about this. And if she was just doing this for money, folks, she would have written it when more people gave a damn about the band and their soap opera. Say You Will didn't even go platinum.
Like the number of record buying fans, the number of people who are going to shell out cash for this story has plummeted. That doesn't diminish the story for me, but I think it wipes out the argument that she is simply cashing in. She could have done that years ago with a tape recorder and ghost writer.

In a few days I'll finish and post more about the book itself. Like I said, so far I am having a blast reading it.

I can believe her not liking to drink, but I still think she downplayed the amount of coke she did. Other people have talked about her addiction, and both accounts don't match up. I suspect it's because she wanted to focus on the huge amounts the band snorted (and doesn't pass up any opportunity to express that) so maybe she thought she'd lose credibility if she admitted being involved heavily in it also?

Sure is. I found it funny to hear that instead of sending up a prayer or forming a huddle before a show, they all put out their wrists together and had J.C. pour white dust on them.

It's not blatantly out there no, but it'll all start once you get to the chapter that deals with Lindsey's epilepsy attack. Then it shifts from a story and funny anecdotes to Carol and Lindsey forming a union against the big bad wolf that is Fleetwood Mac. And that's where, especially between the lines, the resentment and hostility comes out, making all the compliments seem forced and even a little hypocritical at times. It's them against the band regarding his health, his music, his appearance, his intentions... basically everything.

I am not hostile towards it. So far I have only honestly relayed what I think of it. And that there are many inaccuracies in it, which make it hard for me to take everything at face value.

In fact, many believe that's why it took so long for the book to get published and that's why there aren't any shocking revelations in it. If you ask me this is revised version number 27 or so.

I did too at first, until after a few chapters it turned into a Harlequin novel, with the endless dramatic and romantic ramblings. But hey, maybe that's your thing.

I will keep tabs on this. Already she talks of "needing" a bottle cap.

That is a riot. And so not a surprise.

I just read that. And I have to admit I was shocked at how callous they were and how the band was so purely business from the absolute get go. But, I can see the dynamic already, which obviously is gonna come to a crescendo after Tango. So far, she has had pretty nice things to say about everyone. I am waiting for some mention of Lindsey being jealous of Stevie's dating. But it is hardly mentioned - she is just surrounded by her dress alike fan girls all the time. Which is extremely funny to me. I used to find it charming when I pictured that, now it just seems odd.

I didn't get the impression you were, really. I think your reaction has been pretty fair. What inaccuracies are you seeing?

Well so many of the comments about not believing a word of it, she is a bittter and jealous bitch, blah blah blah, don't seem to take into account any of those realities. But, I noted with a chuckle that Don Henley is referred to as a "friend" of Stevie's and that she is "close" to many of the Eagles. Read: screwed everyone but Glenn Frey That was a clear rewording of history. Only the afffair with Mick is plainly out there. So those are clearly legal tracks. Which is fine with me. I have heard enough dirt about Stevie to write my own book, as most of us have. But it is clear she is not saying much about her antics, which we know were considerable.

Hah. I am waiting to see the tone of voice change more, but have already noted the relationship with Lindsey is clearly very immature and that Carol was an extremely naive kid. Honestly she is what, 23 or 24 when this is starting? I buy the reality that she is green and romantic. It goes with the territory. And come on, this is a STEVIE NICKS forum. People here have an inordinately high tolerance and affinity for romantic, wide eyed and lovestruck rambling. And don't even require that it makes any sense to boot.

I wonder if Carol's POV and attitude will change as the book goes on. About Lindsey, the band, etc. I don't expect her to be a great writer, but am curious to see if the telling and tone is going to change as things unfold. She is already setting it up as a situation that is gonna get worse and worse as time goes on.

I just got done speed reading this book. On one hand I am glad someone wrote a book about the behind the scenes stuff on the other I wish it was someone who had a more complete story to tell. The scenes she describes obviously have a lot more complexity to them and should have been more fleshed out. Instead all we get is a very one-sided account.
I think a lot of the things she describes did happen but we are not getting the whole story behind them. I don't think she was as much of an insider as she thinks she was, probably on a "need to know" basis as far as the band was concerned. When she talks about Stevie ( and Christine to a certain extent ) she comes off as petty and jealous.
What annoys me the most is how she portrays herself as the big victim in every situation. She has to go out of her way to insist she did'nt sleep with Dennis Wilson ( convenient that he isnt around to confirm or deny it ) or have any responsibility at all for anything else that happened. She builds up her and Lindsey's relationship like they are Romeo and Juliet to the point you have to stop reading or you might puke and then goes on about what an abusive, spastic freak he is all at the same time. She is pretty schitzo when describing people in general so who knows what is true and what isnt. She does paint Lindsey as insecure, moody, and controlling and gives detailed accounts of his abuse. I always thought Lindsey acted pretty indifferent about CAH and even laughed about her and Dennis sleeping together. Maybe that is just my perception. Oh well, she does say Christine was a witness to one of the attacks, so who knows. Maybe Chris should write a book.

Default Stevie, Carol Ann & Sara

Carol Ann thanks Sara Fleetwood in the Acknowledgments at the beginning of the book (along with others) for her love and support. Stevie's still friends with Sara, and Carol Ann is probably still friends with Sara. I'm sure that if Stevie felt she were being slandered, her attorney(s) would have been all Carol Ann. Also, it's endorsed by Danny Goldberg, who was/is a friend of Stevie's.

The book is probably truthful, as much as some Stevie fans don't want to admit it. If it were full of lies, I doubt that it would have gotten to the publishing point.

As far as remembering things in detail from years and years ago - I doubt she could have written the book in this much detail if she wouldn't have kept audio diaries - Sara did the same thing, apparently.

Not a single raised eyebrow?

I guess you believe Wikipedia is a vaild resource and Fox News actually has anything to do with real news?

Having tapes you'd expect her details would match independent sources. Instesad she recalls events taking place prior to their known occurence. She also quotes people using words and phrases that are beyond belief.

Events such as what? Fill me in because I'm wondering if I've missed something.

She does say in her Author's Note (on the back of the page that has the huge picture of her and Lindsey on it): "Some conversations have been recreated from memory." I would have preferred that she not have those conversations in there, but that's just my preference.

I know that a lot of people want to blow her off as a bimbo or whatever, but until someone else like Stevie writes something to the contrary, I have no reason to doubt that Carol Ann is not telling the truth. I have nothing to compare it to.

And no, no raised eyebrows. She's probably the one that cares the least out of all of us........

Point taken about Wikipedia and Fox News. I don't believe that they are good resources. So I'll agree that Danny Goldberg's endorsement doesn't mean much.

Not entirely true... James Frey managed with A Million Little Pieces. And that apparent true account was full of lies and embellishments - something the publisher either overlooked or didn't check, or couldn't check for whatever reason.

I don't have the book, but does it mention anything anywhere that this is a memoir or anything? Not that it needs to to set it apart from a true account, cause Autobiographies can be embellished as well.
