I originally started out wanting to do something kinda country-modern-beachy... but as I conducted my "architectural research," I got hooked up with a midcentury modern architect (a former colleague of the Saarinens) who sent me totally overboard with the whole international modern/case study house style- the kinda stuff that architectural buffs love, but most people find kinda cold/austere, etc. It's impractical on so many levels, especially with all of the glass. And when people ask me, I tell them honestly that I don't care if people can see me traipsing around the house in the nude. In fact, I'll even get additional tattoos to make it more interesting for them.

Anyway... this is my work/nightmare in progress... hopefully finished in time for summer at the beach!

Your house is beautiful!!!!!!!

and, for the love of mid century modern and Bauhaus I may have to marry you

Also, I once drove across the state of Georgia to buy some cool hand made drawer pulls

Yes, I can understand how you would need such an abundance of warm winter outerwear in those extreme, frigid Los Angeles winters.

Now THAT's a renovation that the Sugarbakers would be dang proud of!

And please don't tell me that you did not sing "Wuthering Heights" whilst sauntering through that space.

Thank you... not such a traditionalist then, are you? I tell ya, when one of the carpenters asked me what kind of crown moulding and chair rail I wanted, I just about fainted.

And those had better have been some serious drawer pulls! Actually I just bought my door handles online; I didn't fret nearly as much as you:

^^^

Those handles are FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and, yes, I romped through that house more than once belting out a tune or two

THe thing about that house is it is not a huge house, but, as an architect, he built the hell out of the space. The hinges on the doors alone made we weak in the knees. AND - you shoulda seen me sweeping down that staircase in a ballgown!!

I had so many wonderful parties there. I do miss that house.

I always go with quality over size... um, er... well... almost always. It's always disappointing to go into these large, stately houses only to find hollow-core doors, bad wallpaper and avocado green appliances.

So was this ballgown thing a regular occurrence or what??
