I found a (proposed) plot synopsis for the sequel here: http://dlisted.blogspot.com/2006/04/...uel-is-go.html

I didn't paste it here, in case nobody wants a spoiler. Also, they haven't started shooting yet, so who knows which direction they'll really take. There are also some great pics of the ladies at the DVD premiere party.

Hmmm...I'm not sure how I feel about that plot...why the hell would they go to Mr. Hart's funeral?? LOL...kidding. Anyway - hopefully with the likes of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton it won't be a total disaster...

Anyway - if y'all haven't yet go buy the Sexist Egotistical Lying Hypocritical Bigot edition DVD...IT'S A RIOT!!! I've had the most fun watching it...and it's sparked a love for that movie all over again....it's just brilliant.

AND it's also going to be hitting Broadway sometime...crazy.

I'm excited and worried at the same time. The original is one of my all-time favorites (can't wait to get the new DVD!), and it would be fantastic to see Dolly, Lily and Jane working together again... but it seems to me that '9 to 5' is one of those movies that really doesn't need a sequel. It ended so perfectly.

Hmm.

To NOT put Dabney in the sequel is a F'ING MISTAKE. I heard hes not in it, they all meet at his funeral. Dabney made that movie a hit just as much as the others. Dabney created the conflict that sparked the movie, without him it wouldnt of been as good.

Sigh. But, again, having Dabney Coleman in it would already be untrue to the original. He was abducted by Amazons. Does no one remember this!?! Come on! I'm already miffed that they're going a funeral of his..what did they find his body in the Brazilian forest? LOL....

I have several concerns and agree with JohnnyStew that the original is great as is and needs no sequel. Hopefully it'll be ok though.

And JohnnyStew...RUN, don't walk, to get that DVD now lol...it's fab!

And true to Marketing 101, 20th Century Fox dropped this on the market this past Tuesday:
9 to 5 - Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition

As usual, another double-dip DVD release, but this one has deleted scenes and a gag reel among other new Special Features.

Oh come now. The sequel couldn't be any worse than that TV show from the '80s.

That's the one I've been talking about through this WHOLE thread...!!!!

It's fantastic - and cheap - so whereas I'm usually miffed when they do this DVD double dipping thing - this was well worth the money....for the featurette alone...and the deleted scenes are a lot of fun....!

Oh gawd yes. It even starred Dolly Parton's little sister! Here's som infor from Jump The Shark:

First Show 1982
Last Show 1983
Genre Comedy
Network ABC
Slot Day Tuesday
Slot Time 9:30pm
Jumped The Shark when... Votes
Day One 6
Exit...Stage Left (Valerie Curtin) 3
Exit...Stage Left (Rita Moreno) 1

Other Thoughts:

Even if it almost hadn't the time to jump because it was canceled after a few episodes, i think it was the moment when valerie curtin left the cast.

This show died when Rita Moreno left it.

This was a cheesy 80's movie which made an even more cheesy syndicated tv show. If Dabney Coleman was a step up. . . it couldn't get much lower.

Using Dolly Parton's sister for Dolly Parton (in other words right away). The 9 to 5 movie wasn't cheesy, it was very good at its time. I remember the thrill of the ladies' defeat over Dabney Coleman. But the show, yuk!

For the networks to turn a mediocre movie into a series is every bit as inexplicable and inexcusable as film studios turning a stinker of a show into a movie! Granted, the movie was "cute". However, what really worked for it was the chemistry between Dolly, Jane, Lily and Dabney. Without that, content alone just couldn't cut the mustard.

Another wrong-headed premise that tried to milk the cash-cow movie for more moohla. The whole point of the movie was how the trio of women triumphed over their slave-driving boss. Why would we want to watch them still suffering under him? Plus, casting Dolly Parton's sister in the main role illustrates what I call The Adrienne Barbeau Theorem: Big boobs, in and of themselves, are not enough of a reason to watch a terrible show.

9 to 5 was truly a show that died a long, slow and painful death. Does anyone else remember in the mid to late 1980s a new, syndicated version of 9 to 5 long after the network version got canned? It had godawful Sally Struthers playing the lead and also starred (I think) Sheryl Lee Ralph among an ensemble of truly bland, D-list actors. It was still called 9 to 5 and yet all the character names were different with no Judy, no Doralee, no Mr. Hart, etc. But since nobody has brought this up, perhaps this truly was a figment of my childhood imagination. I'm sure Sally would like to forget she ever agreed to perform this dreck.

This show jumped the shark with the departure of Valerie Curtin at the beginning of the 1983 season. The show was canceled shortly after her departure. As for the poster who said there was a syndicated version of the show that had D-list actors, well, he was right. There is one thing, though. Doralee and Judy were brought back. In fact, the same actors played them (Rachel Dennison and Valerie Curtin). There was no more Mr. Hart in this horrible version, but a boss played by Edward Winter. And it's sad but true that Sally Struthers was added to the cast as Marsha Macmurray Shrimpton (I swear to God I didn't make that up). The show was horrible, but did last for two seasons. In fact, I saw it as a kid on TBS Superstation. 9 to 5 was my favorite movie as a kid, but what they did to it in the syndicated version seemed almost unthinkable! Isn't anything sacred?

9 to 5 was another example of a decent movie being turned into a dreadful television series. The movie worked due to a clever script and the undeniable chemistry between Fonda, Tomlin, Parton, and Dabney Coleman, but even with a seasoned pro like Rita Moreno in Tomlin's role and Dolly's look-alike sister in Dolly's role, this show just did not work and jumped the shark from day one.

I've seen 9 to 5 so many times, I can almost quote the whole thing. And I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Omigod, I can just imagine, THAT would be hysterical!
