Exactly. It's like Patti Smith doing a private show for Kellogg Brown & Root.

If you need to spend those exorbitant amounts of wealth on an afternoon of entertainment, something is SERIOUSLY wrong with your brain, your psyche , your soul and your heart, in the needy world we live in.
HOW many Katrina victims are having their hotel allowances suspended?

As long as there are people living in the streets and dying from lack of getting their basic needs met, disgusting displays like these cannot be justified by ANY argument.

Yup. Not one.

Bullshiitte - it is their money. If you want to give your's away - by all means do so. But, the minute you or anyone else tells me what the hell to do with mine is the minute you cross the line. Again, please list your expenses and let us sit in judgement on you. I mean if you get down to it, we all should have one outfit that we wash once a month and we should all live in a 15x15 room with only a cot. I mean why should one person live any better than the other

Nope.

I have no interest in playing for a 13 year old JAP's. Contrary to Sparky's statement, I am not a whore.

Then again, if we criticize her for this, it's no different than her performance at a private show for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores a few years back -- or for The World Shoe Association -- or for the NBA Allstars -- all of which like the Bat Mitzvah, i'm sure she received substantial compensation for. It's just another paycheck

I really think she should just embrace this second source of income all the way and do a show for the North American Clinical Dermatologic Society. I'd get such a kick out of labeling that bootleg CD.

I agree with you here.

However, Jason- even you must admit that this whole thing was just a colossal waste of money. No moral judgements or whether or not it was "right" or "wrong", just a simple "wow, that's a lot of money to spend on a party for a 13 year old". If that's what that dude wants to do with the cash he earned, fine- but it's still a colossal waste.

Good question. Why should they? I'd love to hear your answer to this. Why should others have millions & millions of dollars to waste while others are starving, without homes, and living in abject poverty? That's what capitalism and greed creates, of course, the ability for one to live better than another (even if the poor bastard works harder than the millionaire), but entitlement is a subjective thing and not something that should be argued in a discussion about a rich man spending millions to entertain his child for one night.

Sure, we all do. Only thing is, you're talking about the haves vs. the have nots. I'm more inclined to defend the have nots as opposed to the haves. The haves have it all, they don't need defending. Someone being disparaged because of their race has much more serious consequences than someone being stereotyped because of their extreme wealth. Doesn't this make sense in the most pragmatic of terms? I'm a relativist, I can't make across the board judgements about things that, to me, are like apples and oranges. I don't understand your position at all.

All this talk of values got me to thinking about all the "houses and cars" Stevie sniffed up her nose a la cocaine. Talk about your conspicuous consumption...but that's the rock star life. We don't judge them for it, only rich families who throw exhorbanent (sp?) bat mitzvahs for their daughters .
