Multi-millionaire DAVID H BROOKS paid a reported $10 million (GBP5.6 million) to hire the artists to perform at his daughter ELIZABETH's party at New York City venue The Rainbow Room. Brooks is said to have chartered his company jet to pick up Aerosmith rockers STEVEN TYLER and JOE PERRY from their Saturday (26NOV05) concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He reportedly paid the WALK THIS WAY stars $2 million (GBP1.1 million) to play a 45-minute set, while 50 Cent is thought to have received $500,000 (GBP278,000). Petty wowed the gathering with an acoustic performance, while The Eagles stars JOE WALSH and DON HENLEY played alongside FLEETWOOD MAC singer Nicks. Other acts to perform at the extravagant event included CIARA, NICOLE RICHIE's fiance DJ AM and saxophonist KENNY G. However, Brooks has denied the reported cost of the event. He told the New York Daily News, "All dollar figures vastly exaggerated. This was a private event and we do not wish to comment on details of the party." |
That is sickening.

I say if he's gonna offer it... Then grab it... Good for them.
Did I read somewhere recently where this guy tried to get FM as a band to play?? Stevie looks like the only one that took him up on the offer. |
I will say it's a pretty good line-up for a 13 year old's party. Rich girl has some good taste in music!

I don't knock the rich guy for buying his daughter a party (although I agree with JYGM below about priorities and values), but I question why people with good politics like Tom Petty were willing to be bought by a defense contractor with a history of labor disputes. A quick google search brings up a lot of interesting info on Brooks, here's just one item:

And I'm sorry you believe that the values people should be teaching their children are, "We have lots of money, so you can have whatever you want!" But, hey, as you said, they do have the money! So more power to them! That is how it works. Maybe if we're lucky, one day just a handful of people will have the money. Then it will really be more power to them! Think of all the great parties they'll have then! I sure hope I get invited! Where should that line be drawn? I don't know man, but here's a thought: If your choices for spending your budget include either throwing a party for your daughter or paying for housing for every homeless Katrina victim for over three days (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/22/hur...ap/index.html), maybe that's a good place to start drawing. |
