I did this without reading everyone else's responses, so let's hope mine doesn't sound like too many other people's lists. In no particular order:

1. Gang of Four- Entertainment!
2. David Bowie- Aladdin Sane
3. Gram Parsons- GP/Grievous Angel
4. Patti Smith- Horses
5. Roxy Music- Country Life/Siren
6. Elvis Costello- My Aim Is True
7. The Clash- London Calling
8. T-Rex- Electric Warrior
9. Big Star- #1 Record/Radio City
10. Bob Dylan- Blood on the Tracks

And she looks FANTASTIC! You would never look at her and say "She's 63." No bloody way.

Did you know that Tom Petty had "Grievous Angel" in mind when he wrote "Insider" for Stevie?

Why is there no The Jam on your list?

No, I didn't. That's fantastic.

I guess there could've been. Switch out London Calling with Sound Affects, then, since I just read that London Calling wasn't released in the US until 1980. I've always liked Style Council & Paul Weller solo (like "Heliocentric") a tiny bit more than the Jam stuff, though, even though Style Council especially was more flawed.

What I'm hoping is that Sharon or Nancy or someone will post an MP3 of that section of Tom Petty's Innerview with Jim Ladd in which he says how attracted he always was to the type of duet found on "Grievous Angel," & how Stevie's vocal work on 'Insider' reminded him of the Harris-Parsons dynamic.

Remember how I always used to sing "My Ever Changing Moods" to you?

Tammy & I talk about that song now. I wish Tammy would post here.

I don't remember that. Will you sing "Beyond the Sea" for me? That's my favorite song. I'll marry you, clean your house, and make you soy bacon every day if you sing it for me.

I don't have that clip, but that doesn't surprise me in the least.
Gram Parsons in turn, was influenced by the harmonies in the duets of George Jones and Melba Montgomery.
