Your favourite albums by decade: the 70s

Well it seems the 60s weren't terribly popular with Ledgies. Not too many responses on your favourite albums from that decade, which is surprising.
So anyway onto the 1970s. It would be cool if you would rank your favourites rather than saying "all Kiss albums" which doesn't reveal much (those top 100 lists in Rolling Stone and Mojo wouldn't be as much fun to read if they all said that!) :D
So once again no Mac in your lists, cos I'm sure Rumours and Tusk would otherwise come out tops!

Here's my list of the best non-Mac albums of the 70s:

1. Gram Parsons - GP/Grievous Angel
2. Neil Young - On The Beach
3. Blondie - Eat To The Beat
4. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes
5. David Bowie - Low/Heroes/Lodger (the Eno albums)
6. Nick Drake - Pink Moon/Led Zeppelin III
7. Patti Smith - Easter
8. Television - Marquee Moon
9. Talking Heads - Fear Of Music
10. Can - Tago Mago

Once again there are just too many I've left out!

I don't own many albums from the 70's besides Mac...

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Led Zeppellin - Led Zeppelin IV

Well, I'm doing the 80s tomorrow and the 90s on Monday
Hopefully those will get a good response...

Btw, Moondance by Van Morrison is also excellent.

I want to respond to these, but I haven't ever really listened to music from "albums". Mainly the radio, and stuff. So, then, I think of the songs I like, and I don't know which albums they are from, or even if I like all the songs on said album.
Anywhoo, I've been listening to seventies music most of my life, so who knows if I could narrow this one down anyways? I wish I was a little cooler, though, then I could do it.
uh....
er....
nope.
all the usual suspects, I guess.

Amber (just to sound like a proper muso hehe) I reckon you should buy The Cars self-titled 1978 album. It's awesome and you will love it!

mmmm, Cars. I really love them. You are right.

A muso is someone obsessed with music. Someone who puts their record collection in alphabetical order, stuff like that. You know, like in High Fidelity!

Ohhhhh. I didn't know there was a name for that. But then, why would I? That's totally you, yeah? Like I said, I don't even really have albums. I have, like, 25 CD's, and they're mostly mac. And then all the stuff from/on my computer.
carry on! :wavey: (wit'cho bad self)

I remember going thru a Roy Wood (of ELO and Wizzard fame) phase back then (I was the odd one out because everyone loved David Cassidy....).
Anyways, he put out an album in disguise, under the name of "Eddy and the Falcons" and to this day, I have great 70's memories of it, despite it having been long gone now (my sister warped it!)....yes, definately a huge fav for me ....

Your taste is impeccable. I would substitute "Aladdin Sane" for the Bowie-Eno albums; I think its achievement outdistances even the impressive work Bowie did later in the '70s.

I'd also add Parliament's "Mothership Connection," Rickie Lee Jones's debut album, Elvis Costello's "My Aim Is True" (OR "Armed Forces"), the Clash's "London Calling," Joni Mitchell's "Court & Spark," Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" (OR "Darkness on the Edge of Town"), Elton John's "Tumbleweed Connection" (OR "Caribou"), Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book," War's "The World Is a Ghetto," O'Jays' "Back Stabbers" (OR "Ship Ahoy").

Why thank you sir!

Funnily enough I was debating whether to include some of those albums, in particular Darkness On The Edge Of Town, both the Elvis Costello albums and The Clash. They are all in my top 20 though, along with Talking Book and Joni Mitchell's Blue (which I've always prefered to Court & Spark). Cool list though.

Did you see the fave albums of the 60s thread by the way? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that decade too.

Moony 08-13-2005 06:15 PM

doh! I totally forgot London Calling! gah
