I think to myself that Stevie was very lucky to have had her father for so many years. I am sure she is at peace with her father's passing. He lived a full life and she got to spend so many precious moments with him.

It's still very sad and I am shocked, like many, that she wrote a letter to her fans like she did. I find it touching that she felt the need to express her feelings in such an open way.

The "contract" between Stevie and her father about when he should let go is a very personal one between two people who loved each other deeply. Of course she was not saying don't die because I have to work, and we all know that if he died during the summer tour, she would have cancelled it.

It was a spiritual arrangement between the two of them based on things we will never know.
Exactly. To me it means that she went ahead with the tour, even though she may have known death was near for Jess, because it's what he would have wanted. But she wanted to be with him when he died, as I'm sure he wanted her to be there, so she asked him to hold on until the tour was finished. Simple, sensical, loving, and certainly NOT egocentrical.

I'm so glad that he did wait for her. He loved her so, as she loved him. She's such a strong lady, and he was a strong man. He would have done anything for her. I don't think she could have lived with herself if he died when she was on tour. She probably wanted to hold his hand and be near to him. I hope to be near my Dad when he passes as well. I don't want him to be alone! :'(

What a beautiful letter from a classy lady.

Brian LiquidBlue, I totally agree with your post, although I forgot to quote it.

SapphireSister.....maybe the new house she bought?* I think she made extensive renovations on it, perhaps she built a porch, at her Dad's request, for when he visited.

It was comforting to see Stevie's post. I worried a bit about the part where she said she can go with him now. In the days following after I lost my dad I felt very alone, mostly because of dysfunctional family reactions (I "think".) But at any rate, I felt like I wanted to "go with" him. And it was simply not wanting to be left alone and to not part from him because he was my strongest ally in life, having never been married, no significant other, etc. so I know Stevie has to be feeling some of this. She will learn to stand on her own, as I did.

What I want to know is, somewhere in a thread someone said she made a comment at one of the last shows that she would not be touring again for a very long time. Is this true? Because if it is, then we know that she was already thinking and starting to feel that she would be in a tremendous amount of pain when the time came. I pretty much started the grieving process even before my father actually died too, just the thought of knowing I was going to lose him very soon. It was almost too much to handle. She had a lot of strength to be able to give as much to those last few shows as she did.

This could go either way... she could either totally reach out to everyone around her and embrace the love, or she could go hide for a long time and try to refind herself again. I did the latter and I'm still not finished. There was a lot of bitterness that came out from my family members when my dad died, so I'm sure that created a different effect for me. I'm sure Stevie is NOT having to go thru that... thank God!

It's true what someone said earlier about her posting so quickly. When my dad died, I immediately called a few people back home. My stepmom called several people too. It's a natural reaction. It's such an immediate blow to your soul, sharing is almost like a way to help reality set in.

So I really hope Stevie doesn't go into hibernation for long. I don't want this to be too devastating for her, not like losing my dad was for me... I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'd like to see her take some respectable time off and then use this experience to create and share with us because I know there are a LOT of fans who would benefit greatly from her words as she goes thru this transition in her life. I know I would. That is my hope and desire.

I really don't know what else to say except thank you to the people who have offered their condolences to fellow Ledgies. I offer mine as well. Even tho my dad has been gone for 3 years, it hasn't been long enough that something like this doesn't affect me. I've been teary eyed all day and I think I'm gonna go smoke a cigarette... just one.

I've lost a grandmother and a great aunt in the last few years that were very dear to me. Stevie was there for me when I needed her, and hopefully in some way we can all return the favor

Please don't cry. I don't feel that it is the expression of emotion that Jess would want you to be feeling, nor would Stevie.

So please don't cry , try and be like me...
Be Irish and Be a witch (well, maybe everyone can't do that...)and Be crazy, and Be Happy that you were are part of someones life...
Have a whiskey and celebrate one life passing you by, whoever's life that may be. A Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Child, Dog, Cat, it all counts and it all feels the same. Loss is loss. But remembering joyful times brings such a sense of peace and calm, and love to your heart, please try and you will find the sadness and tears.....dry.

It is amazing that a woman (whom none of us know,) can bring so many people from all different walks/talks of life together and allow us to share/feel such deep emotions. We do love this Stevie...don't we.

Wishing you all peacefilled dreams~~

Are you kidding me with this? The arrogance of this post made me stop lurking. Did you even know the man??? I understand it is very sad for Stevie and I feel for her and her family. But please get over yourself. He lived a long happy life and this is far from a tragedy. I do not want to be like you, thanks!

[QUOTE=desertangel]It was comforting to see Stevie's post. I worried a bit about the part where she said she can go with him now.

I'm pretty sure that she just meant by this, that she can go to the house

and be there alone, and know that he is there with her, "in spirit."

Stevie's beliefs, to me, seem to be very consistent, and especially at a

time like this, she needs to hang on to them. So maybe she was

reassuring us - and, therefore, herself - that his spirit lives on and that

she'll be able to feel him with her, sometimes.

I am proud of her for addressing his death so quickly and sweetly.

I think she knew he was leaving....and asked him not to go until...., until..., until....,
and now everything is done-
There is quiet in Stevie's life....
and he chooses this time, as the right time to leave.

In reading her poem about his house by the sea, I felt a sense of acceptance in her words. I know Stevie will be strong and she will be fine. There will be tears, and a lonely place in her heart, for some time.
However, I think she knew he was ready to leave and was waiting for it to be OK with her.....

Might sound crazy, but I lost my Dad in the same way. When I was strong enough to handle him being gone...that is when he left. I think Jess and Stevie have that same bond. Bless them both!!

And again I will share my belief : As long as someone lives in your heart and in your mind...they are never really gone.

My wishes are for Stevie's strength, and also for many wonderful, joyous and happy memories of "her Daddy"...... always.....

Not to put down anything that's being said here,

but let's not forget that Jess had a son, too, named Chris.

Stevie's little brother.

It's not like he "didn't count" in Mr. Nicks's thoughts, etc.

And a wonderful wife, named Barbara.

Stevie's special, but she's not the only member

of this family unit.

Just an observation.

This is kinda unrelated, but I just wanted to say "kudos" for

including the Mulder/Scully Dancing picture with your post.

As the great philosopher E. Murphy once said,

"Oh, so you caught that! . . . ."

It added a nice touch to what you were saying.

I thought this was a very nice touch on Kinney's part.

A nice reminder, without making any comments about it,

that there's others involved in addition to Stevie -

that this is a family

"And when I call, will you walk gently through my shadow?

The ones who sing at night -

the ones who sing at night.

The ones you dream of,

the ones who walk away -

with their capes pulled around them tight,

crying for the night

cry for the night bird -

tonight."
