He hooked up with her, if I've got my story right. I think he knew that she could sell the **** outta him/them. Plus, she was hot. But, yeah, deigning to date Linds was certainly not the dumbest move she ever made...
"Remembering her and her distinctive voice, Lindsey asked her to join the band he was playing in, Fritz..."

Because he was going somewhere real fast

I think you like to make it sound like LB was on the plane to stardom and Stevie was running behind him screaming "YOU KNOW I HAVE NO TALENT TAKE ME WITH YOU" That is just not true. They went together and happily so according to both. yet, you always make it sound like Stevie was just some random hang on gal in LB's way and she was merely fortutious to have met him. I think that is misleading and untrue. I mean even LB said they were a "package deal." By that he could have meant "I need her because of her songs, talent, etc." Yet, you never say that Moreover, it is mostly because of her ambition that Mick noticed them I believe she was the one who said let's move to Calif. - though I think in the end it was a mutual decision.

Good point. Don't sell Lindsey short in that regard, though. He also recognized enough in her to realize that she would have a special appeal, and was worth taking along. And whether by coincidence or design, I think they owe a lot of success to walking that thin line between sell-out and integrity, and playing that up for all it was worth.

That, and they just sounded right together.

Actually, as I stated above, he asked her to join his band.

Maybe not...but she draws a decent crowd on her own..also depends on where she plays and how they are set up...As we all know she always sells well in Atlanta..

The story I had was that Mick wanted Lindsey, and LB told him they were a package deal.

There was a time when Stevie's voice was enough of an instrument to draw new fans to her. I think she's long past that point. But she's always been a stronger lyric writer, IMO.

Well I dunno, her "new voice" has a following also..I starting liking her because of her "The Dance voice", and didnt get into her pre-dance music till a little later..
And I still prefer her voice now to many of her previous voice incarnations..

Well, yes, but they would not have been in LA in the first place had it not been for Stevie's ambition - thus, Mick could have never heard FL and asked LB to join Plus, LB would not go without her - so that must mean on some level that he thought her an asset outside of the bedroom In the end, this whole tired argument is silly because we will never know who would have done what if not for FM. Maybe La Nicks would have gotten tired of supporting LB so he could play guitar and work on his craft. Maybe he would have gotten tired of her. Maybe they would have married and been huge stars in their own right. But, the fact is they through a series of events, joined FM, and the rest is great musical history IMO.

That is just Diss being an a$$ - Though I love him, to hear him say it, you would think La Nicks has played to more than half empty arenas since 1985, when the facts suggest that while there were few sell outs, the venues were fairly if not mostly full (around 2/3 proabably or more on average though I am not about to head over to Pollstar )

I'm not sure she would've gotten to be famous without Lindsey in the beginning. She has talent by herself but it was the "packaged deal" in the beginning that got her going. Without him, she may not have captivated so many and attained the level of stardom she enjoys (and still enjoys, though not so much). I don't think "Gypsy" is so spectacular without Lindsey, but I don't feel that all of her songs need his playing and production.

Of course, whether or not she has the talent to go on without him and whether or not she can gain popularity with the masses are two different issues, though you pretty much said that. I guess I'm just rehashing what you already said, so I'll stop now.
Well, they are an example of "the sum is greater than its parts". Separately they are both good, together they blow you away.

Haven't read the entire thread yet but I had to respond to this. As much as I'm giving SN her props for Vegas, nobody's mentioned one big negative for the show besides the cappy setlist and cheesy vids. Only Sat was sold out. Tues some friends of mine stayed in the casino and didn't go to the show. They counted over 100 people walking out during the show. I thought the whole week was a success for fans but the comp ticket holders won't be taking up seats on the tour. Caesar's only held about 4000 capacity. I don't see Stevie selling out tour venues larger than that this summer.

I'm not sure that's actually what happened but people always tell it that way. Stevie actually got into Fritz via another member. Male/female cousins who left the group were replaced by Stevie and another guy and that other guy got her into the band, as I heard it told.

Well I don't think Vegas is any indication of how the tour will do....Sure it seats 4100, but she played there four nights...so if she say drew app. 14,000 people (assuming she didnt sell it out the first 3 nights) to one city, I dont think that's bad...Also tickets were a little higher in Vegas than they will be throughout the tour, atleast her solo portion...I think she will draw about the same crowds she did with the TISL Tour... Her shows with Don, from what I've heard are meeting expectations of the promoter in terms of sales, and we will see I guess.

I acutally came here looking for a copy of Saturday night's Vegas show but surprisingly I've found I love it and have become addicted already lol. None of my close friends are Stevie die hards and they get sick of me talking about her so it has been so wonderful to find a group of people that feel the same way about her as I do. It's also great to share the knowledge and learn from other people and hear their experiences. I am so thrilled I discovered this place! I only wish I would have discovered it before the Vegas shows so I could have met some of you!

Her current voice was what made me a fan. I hardly knew who any of them were before I heard her in 2001.
