I love Stevie Nicks, I love Lindsey Buckingham. Either one of these artists would play to the biggest crowd they could sell tickets to without any issues of integrity or lack thereof. The fact that Lindsey was instrumental in getting Stevie hired by Fleetwood Mac and then shot to superstardom doesn't wipe out any talent she had then or does today. A big part of the magic of the Buckingham/Nicks union is their history together and tiny little twists of fate that brought them into the spotlight. We know and love them because they loved each other enough to not abandon their dreams when things were stacked against them.

A waitress? A bitter frustrated artist? Either one of them probably spends their time better than those who fued on internet forums about which rock star millionaire deserves to be worshipped.

I don't think either one of them needs the other. But I think they go together well. I'll take either one solo.

I just want to say, I can't believe you haven't watched the BATB video. Even if you don't like the song, it's totally stunning. You? Are missing out!

Ditto. BATB is one of my favorites, and that version is killer.

Well, the only place I know of where it's up is Nancy's site and for whatever reason my computer won't support that type of file.

Ah, but if you would have scene it live, you would've been salivating, dear.

Hmm. I know you're not alone. Personally, I dig Lindsey's solo stuff, and I like Stevie with Fleetwood Mac. Stevie's solo stuff, not so much.

I was a late convert, though. A college buddy went to see a show in "The Dance" tour, and I ragged him for it. All I knew of FM was 'dreams,' 'landslide,' 'rhiannon,' etc. I didn't even know songs like 'go your own way' or 'don't stop' were FM, because I had associated FM with Stevie. I wasn't a big fan (although I came to truly love her contributions to Tusk later). My buddy shakes his head and says "Dude, you don't even know..." and gives me a copy of 'The Dance.' So I'm a fan now, primarily because I love listening to Lindsey play guitar. But I'm a guitar player, so I guess that makes sense.

Anyhow, I don't really mean to disparage Stevie's contributions. I'm just not into it. I also have some doubts as to how far she would have gotten without Lindsey or FM, but she did have some things going on for her, musically.

I have not heard her do an a capella three part harmony in YEARS - much less with that precision. It was great and I loved it.

Well, yeah, it's a matter of personal taste. But as for how far she would've gotten without Lindsey in the first place, I have to agree with you. I'm not sure she would've gotten to be famous without Lindsey in the beginning. She has talent by herself but it was the "packaged deal" in the beginning that got her going. Without him, she may not have captivated so many and attained the level of stardom she enjoys (and still enjoys, though not so much). I don't think "Gypsy" is so spectacular without Lindsey, but I don't feel that all of her songs need his playing and production.

Of course, whether or not she has the talent to go on without him and whether or not she can gain popularity with the masses are two different issues, though you pretty much said that. I guess I'm just rehashing what you already said, so I'll stop now.

On the other side of the coin, though, she's always struck me as the more ambitious and networky one. I, personally, think she would have been famous either way, though I'm almost positive her songs wouldn't have been as killer without Lindsey. But, yeah, I think she was much more skilled at the whole "getting/being famous, talking to the right people" thing.

Most definitely. Her hooking up with Lindsey is proof enough of that.
