That's what happened, Curtie - I was talking about staying somewhere about a mile away, which didn't seem far at all to me - then Pattie, who has been there before, suggested that it may end up seeming further than it does to me right now. Ie, it may be more of a pain than I think.

Exactly and some casinos that look like they are not too far away actual take a long time to get to. That is if you walk. Yes, they have shuttles but I saw one maybe once every hour outside my hotel. I now know that they have monarails but those might only be on the strip and if you are not there then that might not be good either.

I have a few co-workers who know Vegas inside and out so I am going to find out some more info from them. They also keep telling me all the deals that are out there but most of those are in April the price jumps in May. They are all going in April of course.

If Stevie played in April we could all get some deals!

Right, and if you're out late it may "seem" like a good idea to walk back to your hotel but it isn't. My friends and I walked the strip home at 4 or 5 in the morning and we were very frightened, don't do this.

Exactly! Trust me you do not want to be out alone at night in Vegas. The shuttle could not even drop me off at the hotel due to the traffic and I had to walk through this parking lot near a movie theater and it was pretty scary. It was not far but I was still kind of scared at night by myself.

Yeah, I actually thought about that, too. Danger! Danger! I had forgotten about the Vegas scuzz factor...thanks, Suze!

That is why I was thinking that if everyone kind of stayed near by we could kind of leave the venue together or something. Safety in numbers as they say.

I dunno. I'd rather get in a cab and ride for 4 or 5 miles than walk a few blocks in the middle of the night. Strength in numbers or not, people do the craziest things nowadays....no matter if there is a crowd or not. That's just me....

If you can stay closer then you don't need to travel 4 or 5 miles in a cab. You can still take one but it won't be as much and trust me if you saw that traffic you better hope to bring a pillow cause you gonna be there a looong time.

Of course I went like I have said a billion times before during July 4th weekend of 2003 so it would be very busy.

Trust me people - stay on The Strip. It's so much easier (and you can get decent prices, esp during the week.) Try Expedia & those type websites. My brother's gotten really good deals through cheaptickets.com (I believe he stayed at Mandalay Bay for $65 per night.)

Off strip is a huge pain - like someone said, your hotel may have a shuttle, but it may only be hourly; it may not run after midnight; you may have to meet the shuttle in a certain place at a specific time to get back. And you CANNOT walk TO the Strip, for the most part - it's surrounded by highways & busy streets with no sidewalks. It's not like other cities - everything looks really close on the map, but sue to the immense size of these places, it's deceiving. However, you can walk up & down the Strip itself.

Downtown may be the only exception - I believe there's shuttles between downtown and the strip all night. And a cab shouldn't be that bad - $25 maybe? Not sure about the newer area (Rio, Palms, etc.)

Cabs are easy, not terribly pricey. The only drawback is that you can't get them curbside like every other city. It's a traffic law. You have to go to one of the hotel entrances to get one - not a big deal if the entrance is close to the street (Boardwalk, Circus Circus) but the bigger hotels (Luxor, Caesars) are set WAY back - some actually have people movers to take you from the street into the place, but they'll throw you into the casinos first & sometimes it's damn near impossible to find your way out.

The bus is very easy, very cheap, runs up & down the street all day & night. I wouldn't recommend taking it late at night though. Scary. The trolleys are good too, but they only make stops at certain hotels & they don't drop you off on the street either - they put you at the hotel's entrance, so you may have to walk 10 or 15 minutes to where you need to go. I think it's $3 per ride no matter how far you're going; I think they have an "all day unlimited pass" too, not sure how much.

Another option is the monorail, which runs behind several of the larger hotels. It only connects certain ones, though - MGM, Paris, Bally's, Caesars, off the top of my head. It's great if you're staying at one of those hotels; but it doesn't run all night AND last time I was there it was shut down for repairs both times we tried to get on. So it's not 100% reliable. Here's a link:

Thanks for the info Paula It was very helpful. There is a monorail station not far from where I am staying so that is good. They run from 7AM to 2AM which is pretty good, too. Let's just hope that they are running that week.

I'm a regular reader of these forums and haven't posted much before so first of all, hi!

I live in Sydney, Australia and i'm heading to Vancouver in 3 weeks time for a year or so (working holiday visa) and couldn't believe it when i heard that Stevie is doing shows in Las Vegas!

I have no idea whether or not i can afford to do Las Vegas for a few days/nights to see her perform. I haven't been to Las Vegas before so i have no idea whether i'd just be getting in over my head on all this Can anyone let me know if there are any good websites in regards to acommodation and for flights too (i'd be coming from Vancouver), because if i can get a *rough* idea on an overall cost and some much needed advice from my fellow Stevie/FM fans then i can deicde whether or not i'll get the chance to see her live for the first time (as a solo act!...i saw her Fm last year in Sydney)

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated

Brett

Hi! Congrats on your uh...work visa and exciting new stuff. Welcome...You might just want to start with cheaptickets.com or expedia.com - you can get an idea of prices of flights. And then, if you find a nice flight, you can check the website of the actual airline - maybe it will be cheaper that way. As far as hotels...i4Vegas.com was helpful to me to look around at all the hotels, and they have a little map there so you can see how far things are from Caesars. (i4vegas.com/strip_map/). From reading around the threads, it seems that you should really try to get a hotel on the strip. They are more pricey, though. I found a couple about 1/2 - 1 mile from the strip (which I didn't think was very far, but people have been telling me that in Vegas, it's much farther than it seems ) that are 50-80 dollars per night. Otherwise I would say you may be looking at more per night...Anyway, I hope this was helpful, and I hope you get to go!!!

Hey Amber,
This is more than enough info to get me started...Thank you very much for your help
I'm not going to book anything until i get to Vancouver (2nd week of April) so i suppose i'll just see how the concert ticket sales go between now and then and whether or not i should jump in and buy one before all her shows sell out!?!

Well...I don't know what kind of seats you want..I can't really say - I want a front row ticket - but maybe those won't sell to fast? As for the rest - I've heard sometimes hotels get booked up, but I'm not to sure about that. Good Luck!!!
