Nope, you're not off--I did say those things. I like to think of myself as moderate but then again, I also like to think that most of the population of the US is moderate and gets stuck being pigeonholed into one category or another. My views on foreign affairs are generally conservative but when it comes to things like abortion and gay rights, i'm more liberal because I don't think government has the right to step into anyones life and tell people how they should be living. I don't side completely with either party because I don't feel 100% passionate about everything each stands for and will do for me.

I think you and I think along the same lines and that makes us truer to the definition of "conservative" than anyone I know about in national politics - they are all for using Jesus to control irrelevant aspects of peoples' private lives as a vehicle to keep them in power so they can use that power to make money. It truly is sickening.

That's exactly right. Yes, you and I are pretty much always on the same wavelength when it comes to politics. As far as I'm concerned, the right steared too far to the right and the left went too far left. That leaves us nowhere for advancement, IMO. In all good conscious, I can't call myself a conservative nor can I call myself a liberal. Funny thing you mentioning the use of Jesus...think back to times in history when God was used much for the same purposes. Those damn cycles...

Moderate needs to be the new conservative.

A, so, are you a classic "fiscal conservative" maybe? And the kind who thinks gov't should be "hands off" when it comes to business and social programs?

People who would never even consider an abortion may choose to take a different stand politically when faced with some real ugly issues that would be the result of a pro-life society. Or at the very least, come to appreciate what those issues are, and perhaps address them.

I mean, hell, if conservatives want to promote this "culture of life", make it easy for women to get pregnant and have babies. Legislate paid pregnancy leave for women who are working when they get pregnant. Subsidize the crap out of child care...how about making it an extension of the public school system? And make the hiring qualifications on par.

I mean if every child deserves a chance, than we should pour all the resources we can into children, right?
Good points there. Great post. I shouldn't be so cynical and assume that no one will bother to look at the other side. There must always be someone who's willing to do that, if for no other reason than to be certain that he is secure in his own views about the subject and has all his bases covered. One can only hope that someone would be able to look at it objectively, and what you've presented there has to be considered, IMO.

Default well, here's a thought...

howzabout this: when a gal is going to an abortion clinic and the pro-life protesters are yelling at her about MURDER! then I think she should say to them: I will stop right now and not go in there if any one of you will sign a legal document offering to ADOPT my child once it its born. You must also pay for my medical expenses from now until the baby is born. It must be BINDING (God forbid a church goer break a LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT!!)
I wonder just how many GOOD CHRISTIANS would step up for that kind of offer? And I think there should be some sort of HUGE financial penalty if the pro-lifer breaks the contract... HUGE!!

Or - they could get in the face of the mob and shriek - well if you allowed anything other than abstinence until the Judeo- Christian form of marriage as the ONLY MF'ING method of BC - maybe there would be less abortions you MF'ERS AND - please submit all of you medical records to some general authority so Pat Robertson can judge YOU or YOUR choices

Of course, the culture of life doesn't apply to those on death row or to the citizens of Iraq.

Dude, i'm not pregnant and i never have been, but i soooo want to make rounds of the abortion clinics nearby and tell the protesters i won't have the abortion if they sign a contract to pay every expense related to the baby... it would be priceless to see the looks on their faces!!

i was involved in a counter protest in high school... it was a catholic school and they rounded up good catholic kids to go down to the abortion clinic on saturday to protest... so three of my good friends, Fitz, Mark and Stephanie and I went down with our own signs... "against abortion? don't have one!" "my body my choice" you know, all those ones... needless to say we were not popular with campus ministry on monday morning.

If they protested at abortion clinics near me, I'd probably do the same.

If they protested at the ones near me, a huge group of people and their cousins would probably be there to kick their a***s!
