so, then, I look up the hill from the road, and there was this weird coyote/wolf/mottled looking thing.(it didn't look like a dog, coyote, or wolf more like some weird mix) then, I look down the hill in the woods, and there was a deer. So of course, I'm thinking "why is the coyote ahead of the deer?" And then my hypothesis was that they had both smelled a mountain lion a 'comin, and were running for it!

The funny thing is that we started with a pile of bird seed and we started to notice that after dark it attracted all sorts of other things often multiple things and multiple species. It's all cool to us, we don't mind sharing the space with them. They were here first...

Indeed! Although I shudder in anticipation of the day one of my cats decides to get in a fight with a 'coon! Man, one was on my porch once, ( I have had many such experiences with 'coons) and I live upstairs, no less, and i was shouting at it and making all kinds of noise, and, well, they just don't give a crap! They're not scared, and they're mean bastards!

Nah! I think most cats know better. We have 4, and they're pretty stupid, but not stupid enough to pick a fight with a wild animal.

The skunks are completly intrepid as well. I was standing on my back steps and out of the brush comes a skunk, just waddling along. I don't even think he knew I was there! But I said something (I figured best to let him know I was there...I mean...who wants to startle a skunk?) and he looked up but just went back to his thing. I suppose he's got the big guns, so he fears no one!

Exactly. If I had the ability to smell like a skunk (which happens sometimes, but not often ) I wouldn't give a sh** either! I'd be like..."Yeah? so what! You want some a this, beyotch? You lookin' at me?"

That's one of the things I miss most about where I grew up (totally backwoods part of NY). We used to get tons of deer in the summer, because of the apple trees in our backyard. It was normal to see all kinds of stuff... foxes, coyotes, even a black bear once. We had a long dirt road as our driveway and I remember one time I was walking to the bus stop to get to school, and came to a group of like 30 turkeys in the road. They actually started following me, not chasing or anything, but like every time I would cross to one side of the road and then back, they would too. Creeped me out so much . The only "wildlife" we really get out here are the crows that eat the cat food we put out for strays.

I saw one last year while visiting some friends with my boyfriend. It wasn't even dusk yet, he was out early. Sean was like, "I wanna pat him." My friends were like, "Noooo." But I knew he was just kidding. He loves animals though and would have pet it if it didn't have that heinous keep away device. A friend of mine got sprayed in a tuxedo. He is in a band and it was after a wedding gig or something. He had to take his clothes off in the barn and leave them there for weeks.

That's my husband. He actually had a pet skunk as a kid (it was de-scented ), but everytime we're looking at these animals he's hanging out the window going, "Hello, Mr. Skunk!" trying to get them used to his voice so they won't be afraid of him.

Only thing is that I'm thinking about starting a vegetable garden this year. The groundhogs are gonna be a problem!

That is really awesome! I never saw a black bear. It is also weird the Turkeys followed you... My hometown has lots of Mountain Lions, I guess, but of course i've never seen one (secretive cats and all). I should probably be glad. I love foxes, wouldn't mind seeing one of those.

That would be cool. I've seen deer in my neighbor's yard, and I saw a fox in this area once, but that's it other than the scavengers I've already posted!

There was a little road I would take to my old work that had a bunch of turkeys on it. Once or twice I was even late to work because it was "Turkey Crossing Time" when I got there. And there is no way to encourage a turkey to hurry!
