My Wildcat (?) or some kind of animal photo
I was in the parking lot of a local beach area Saturday night around 10PM when I saw this thing. It had the face of a cat but looked bigger I went into my friend's SUV and I tried to take it's photo and it looked right into my camera, My camera (this is my new Canon Rebel K2 35mm) was on AUTO and I could not get the shutter button to move. I was not happy. I put it all on Manual and I finally got to snap a photo but by then the cat was moving away. Does anyone have any idea what this is or is it just a very large house cat?
Here is the actual photo that I took. The line is thanks to CVS crappy photo lab. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Wildcat800.jpg And here is the same one that I crop and enlarged, however it came out very grainy. :( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../WildcatPS.jpg |
Judging by the markings I'd say it is just a house cat. But its hard to tell with that picture and I don't know what sort of animals are native to Rhode Island. Could be something wild, but doesn't look like it from what little I can tell. I know that doesn't help much. :sorry:

Looks like...
a housecat to me, I own a rather large housecat ("Ace") who is larger than some Wildcats that reside in this area (The wildcats in the area have ears like lynx's and are 'Bobtails'...aka 'Bobcats', Beautiful animals.)
One thing I love about living in a small rural community is that we see all types of animals from bats to rattlesnakes to Bison/Buffalo to my favorite the Timberwolf  |
I think it just looks like a regular old house cat.

I can do without all those animals. Yes, I am a baby and I don't like wild animals. But they do sound beautiful. |

Yeah looks like a big housecat. We get some pretty sizeable ones around here too.
Incidently ( and speaking of wild animals) here's a Great Blue Heron I rescued this year... |

Don't feel bad because the picture quality is bad thanks to my lack of photography skills and CVS's awful photo lab. I can't seem to find anything about what animals that are native to RI myself. All that I know is when I saw it I got out of there really fast because it was kind of big. It was most likely just a large cat thanks to all of the rats in that area. There are a few eateries in that area that attract them. I think that my next attempt at wild animal photography will be at the zoo the first Saturday of March. |

That was nice and brave of you. I am a city girl and have no clue about wild or any kind of animals. |
Well, anyway here is a photo of winter in coastal RI.

And, Pattie, I know everyone is saying that just looks like a big housecat, but it looks stranger than that to me. Did you get a sense of it's size? Cause it looks really big to me. Also it looks like it has a strange face/body shape. |
I cant stand when...
someone finds a snake and tries to kill it...It grates my nerves cause I love snakes
Several years back, Late one evening I was sleeping peacefully (Worked the daytime shift) and Deb made it home from work and she must have been getting ready to take a shower when I heard her scream basically 'blue murder' because in our towel cabinet curled up in a nice size ball was a beautiful 1.5 foot long snake! So being the dry sense of humor person that I am I just reached in the cabinet picked this snake up in my hands, Opened the front door and released it into the grass outside then proceeded to go back to sleep without saying one thing to Deb the whole time. Moral to the story-I hate being woke up when I am asleep, Unless it is a MAJOR emergency do not disturb the a-hole in his bed  |

I like snakes, too. You know, non poisonous ones? But I did wake up my dad for the potato bug in my shoe. He, too, had worked strange hours (swing). He was about as pleased as you were, being awaken. |
Hey thanks Amber and Pattie! I'm lucky since the shelter is only about 1/2 hour away...and besides...what else was I going to do...let a freakin' BLUE HERON die in my yard??? His wing was really mangled and even when I went to capture him he was so weak he didn't put up much of a fight. Very sad.
And this ain't the country or anything (I live in an immediate suburb of Philadelphia), but my husband has made a habit out of photographing all the local wildlife that finds its way into our yard. We have photos of opossums, racoons, skunks, and even a wild turkey! We live on a street that dead ends at a creek, and there's deer down there. My husband always finds baby snakes and frogs in the yard too! Maybe I'll post some more local wildlife photos if I feel like re-sizing them... |
