Default IKINW Live...

Am I the only one who notices when he plays the song live, during one riff in his solo before the song is through, you can hear a tad bit of Little Lies (a la Christine's keyboard)? Or am I going crazy? I've noticed a few times during this tour that certain riffs he plays are reminiscent of other songs he's recorded or had a part in. Anyone??

No, I only noticed the EOTW-connection that is very obvious in the openinglicks of the solo. But then again, I only had a couple of bootleg mp3's to listen to.
But as I said in another thread: Lindsey is a very repetative guitarplayer, he's so anal. I think when he improvises he samples from the things he played so much that they are somewhere on his "harddisk". That's why his "I think I'm stealing from myself"-remark during his soundstage-performance of Murrow is totally typical.

I think he did that on the studio version as well. Murrow's solo even on the album is ISA live redux - only not as good.

Oh, yes I agree, same thing with TITN. I love his live-solo's, he's just not very inventive and spontane with them. Stupid, cause he's perfectly able to do so. (like on the chicago-1980 ISA, and the comesolo this tour differs quite often, although not in a very obvious way.) It must have something to do with being a controlfreak. It's an intriguing personality. And that's an understatement.

How was the Murrow-solo live when he did it the second time?

Red face

I don't think the Murrow solo from the album is anything like the I'm So Afraid solo live. The Murrow solo has the same dark vibe to it, but I don't think I've ever heard a guitar solo sound quite like that. I think it's two solos layered on top of one another or something.

At his solo PBS Soundstage thingee, his live solo at the end of Murrow went into the ISA solo. Not that I minded because it was still out of this world great for me!!!!!!!!

We're talking about the same two songs, right?

ASFAIK, Lindsey has never done anything like the Murrow solo... on the album track. Live, it seems, was a different story!

Here's what LB said on "Murrow" in the April 2003 Guitar Player article:
Quote:
Murrow Turning Over In His Grave-"The very strange-sounding distortion part is based around a cluster of atonal vocals. You get five, six, or seven different tones together that are out of tune with each other, and it just becomes this arrgh kind of sound. I think there might be some slide in there, too.
For me the "I'm So Afraid" solo has always been a very powerful way of expressing depression, or even a will to die. It's the one where his limited but obsessive soloing first made it's true debut.

"Murrow" may be played on the top of a similar chord structure but it gives me images of violence and extreme destruction. There's no way he would have made it sound like that in the '70s or '80s.

Please give me some of that substance that will make me hear the differences in the "Come" solos of this tour.
And I daresay that he was inventive in his solos pretty much every night up to 1980 and even in 1982 to some extent. But when there's no one in the band to truly kick his butt because the backing players are preventing that from happening then it's no surprise that he plays the way he does these days.

I remember we talked about this a little when the album originally came out, but i'll explain it again. IMMEDIATELY upon hearing Murrow's solo, I thought "ISA." I'm not a musician but I can hear that similiarity easily and I'm surprised everyone isn't hearing it. It's not the higher melody but the lower rhythm part.

It was good but still had twinges of ISA, even though he was consciously trying not to repeat that.

Oh, not everyone, I had the same thing. Part of it are the John and Mick-contributions that made that connection.

Substance? The only substance I can give is my perception! Th MP3-boots are too crappy for this song. But I saw them 4 times, early july in the states and november. All four times the solo had very different parts in it, especially in (the amount of) noisy sections. On the mp3''s it's everytime a deception. I heard a lot more different noisenuances live that I did not hear on the boots.

Well, that's concrete evidence huh?
