Don't Stop is not a favorite around here but it has many unique qualities that get over looked. It was not played on the Rumours tour until it was released as a single very late on the tour. Chris played Oh Daddy instead. It was the 4th Rumours single and the second highest charting single at #3. Warner stopped releasing singles from the album after Don't Stop. That would never happen today. Imagine an album getting a huge #3 hit and then just stopping to let the album fade to not burn itself out.
Check out this clip of isolated vocals. Is this not Lindsey's best vocal or at least one of them? He's hitting the highest notes but with passion. I can almost see his veins popping out in his neck. I wonder who's idea this was to do as a duet. Lindsey and Chris's vocals mesh so well together. But besides taking the first verse, Lindsey is singing the chorus "Don't Stop." Chris is almost coming in as background vocals with "Thinking About Tomorrow" Its quite the interesting mix. These alternating parts work so well. I once saw an interview with Mick that said that Chris brought the song like a bluesy shuffle the way she used to play. I suppose Lindsey got his hands on it and tweeked it into this faster tempo shuffle that turned into the ultimate pop hit. Who remembers Peter Jennings of ABC news broadcasting from the Democratic National Convention after Bill Clinton got the nomination and the song playing and Peter saying "Don't Stop, that Jefferson Starship classic." A few minutes later he had to broadcast his mistake ![]() Vocals Only https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gm4bENexOA

Don't Stop one of my favorites. I know the two collaborated strongly on many songs, but when they both sing, it's even more noticeable. Although they're very different songs, it also shines in World Turning and even in Hold Me.

Its also what made Buckingham McVie so special. Its also what Stevie angry and jealous in 1975 with Chris and Lindsey writing and singing together.

Interesting. Stevie's excessive ego is indisputable, but when and what did she say that makes you think this specifically?

I actually think she has... don't hold a gun to my head over it, but I swear I do recall her admitting at one point in an interview years later that the two of them doing World Turning without her did chap her backside a bit.

She has said something about it. She wasn't angry when she said it, but said at the time she was a bit shocked to see him writing with her.

One small but important correction: “Don’t Stop” was the third single from Rumours. “You Make Loving Fun” was the fourth.
I think I recall reading somewhere that Chris had hoped the label chose YMLF third. |

Yes—she admitted this in an interview around the era of The Dance.

I just watched Part I of the Billy Joel doc. I see The Stranger had 5 singles, it was mentioned kind of a record. We already wonder why Rumours only had 4 singles. There were plenty of options for a fifth single, and even more. I remember years ago I played Rumours entirely for a friend, he said Sounds like a Greatest Hits album.
