Default Instrumental opening to Don't Look Down - mystery solved at last!

I've finally tracked down the piece of classical music that Lindsey adapted for that beguiling opening to 'Don't Look Down' on Out Of The Cradle.

He has said a couple of times that it was by Christoph Willibald Gluck, but I'm not as familiar with Christoph's oeuvre as perhaps I should be... So I gave myself a crash course this morning, and suddenly a charming pizzicato passage leapt out!

It's from Gluck's ballet, 'Don Juan ou le Festin de Pierre', movement 28, the allegretto. You can hear that it would lend itself very well to be adapted by a certain nimble-fingered guitarist:

This may be of no interest to anyone else, but I'm delighted to have solved the mystery after so long!

Hey thanks, tango87 it's certainly of interest to me. I didn't even know it was a classical borrowing, let alone from Gluck. I just love the way Out of the Cradle holds together despite it being oddly disparate. This nearly was mine, another borrowing, this time from South Pacific is the perfect intro to the 50s sounding Say we'll meet again..

On first listening I fell in love with this album ten times more than I fell out of of love with FM as I put the stylus on my Behind the Mask LP...

That might be because I'm in the UK, and it's a copyrighted recording - try this:

I felt exactly the same when I first played Out Of The Cradle. I was so dismayed at Lindsey leaving the band, and I tried so hard to like Behind The Mask, but it just wasn't the same. Then this came out and it gave me everything I needed. I love how detailed and obsessive it is; all those peculiar textures and influences. Wonderful music.
