Default School of Rock, Move/Soundtrack

Soundtrack comes out next Tuesday, 9/30

----
musicNEWS: Jack Black’s “School of Rock” Music Video Unleashed._
09-23-03 Keavin
.
Imagine what would happen if Jack Black was a substitute teacher. That might make for some crazy lectures or he might try and turn the class into a rock band that jams AC/DC classics. You don’t have to imagine it; all you have to do it go to theatres on October 3rd when “The School of Rock” opens in North America._

It wouldn’t be a rock n roll movie without a rock n roll soundtrack and Jack Black and Atlantic Records really pulled out all the stops on this one, as it’s a who's who of classic rock. When the soundtrack lands in stores on September 30th, you’ll not only get classic cuts from The Who, The Doors, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, Stevie Nicks and T-Rex but you’ll also get a new classic from The Darkness, as well two cuts from the School of Rock band lead by Jack Black with some backing by his junior partners._

Black not only leads his students in a rendition of the AC/DC classic "It's A Long Way To The Top", but they also pull off the title track for the film. You don’t have to wait for the soundtrack or the film to catch of preview; Atlantic records has just posted the video for “School of Rock” online_ It features clips from the film as well as Jack Black and the young cast on a rock n roll quest’._

Default School of Rock

I saw the sneak preview on Saturday. What I can say, School of Rock rocked! You should all see it (opens Friday, 10/3). Loved the shout outs to all the guitar legends. And it was great that Stevie was included in the movie (maybe she'll get a few new fans?). When her reference came up, some members of the audience started to clap. It was a funny reference that got at least 5 minutes of screen time in two separate scenes.

The soundtrack is a lot of fun, too. For you completists, it features the Timespace remix of Edge of Seventeen. I compared the two versions and they are essentially the same (no remastering), though the version on the soundtrack is slightly louder.

I am actually going to see the movie today with my 7 year old...(Yes, the days of Disney seem to be over at least for now)...I believe there will be a scene in which Jack Black's character is talking with Joan Cusak's character (I believe she's the principal or something to that effect) and she admits to being a Stevie Nicks fan and there is some kind of exchange between the two.

From the review I read it's supposed to be one of the funniest scenes or something....I'll let you all know what it was about, unless someone sees it first!!

That hack Roger Ebert wrote in his review that it's a Grace Slick song, for cripes sake. What an idiot.

Yes....there was a great Stevie mention in the movie!!!

Joan Cusak's character as the principal is very "by the book" and a bit "tense"...and while in the faculty lounge...Jack Black's character (Dewey/Ned) asked if she was always that uptight...and a fellow teacher said the only time she 'let loose' (i'm paraphrasing but y'all get the gist) was during some banquet where she had some wine and suddenly took a tablecloth and wrapped it around her, danced on a table and pretended she was Stevie Nicks.

Then, Jack's character, took her to a bar...to butter her up for a fieldtrip (which was against the rules for him)....so in order to do that...he ordered her a beer...went to the jukebox and put on Edge of Seventeen. He starts dancing and twirling a bit back to the table (a la Stevie) and Joan's character says "I love this song...I love Stevie Nicks"...Jack's character says, "She's so much better live than on the records"....and then Joan's character says...(i think) "I saw her live once...she looked so....so...White"...all the while she's singing (badly) along to Edge of Seventeen.

Cute Scene....Cute movie...my son loved it!!!
