Define success.
She is not a mega selling artist, and will not be ,she has a niche audience.

And the majority of CD/record/digital buyer teen girls and young gay men don't care for or know her . I like her new stuff with the exception of a few songs like ghosts are gone ,Maebel Norman .. She is creating not trying to duplicate ,she is evolving and changing. She is not in the place you want her to be writing for you . she is finally growing .

This isn't personal to me Olive, its just IMHO. I haven't gotten excited about anything Stevie since 2009 or so, BUT again that's just me. This coming from a guy who grew up loving Stevie, LB, FM and her music. Saw her as a young lad at the Philly Spectrum in July 76 with Firefall before many of you were born or hatched There was magic in the hall and has been since that time. To me, it seems like the magic is falling flat lately. Perhaps she's now turning into the Good Witch

FYI. I bought a copy of Buckinghamnicks when it first came out

I find her shows stagnant, and uninspired ,she needs to shake it up
I have videos from different tours she is so robotic and the set list .... She has to hate " having" to do the same songs. She should grow a pair and add something like with the Enchanted tour and leave Rhiannon home

X2 this ^^^^, however her regular fans (not US) and promoters want to hear the "hits", like it or not. Can you imagine Stevie without Rhiannon or an Edge walk??? I can, BUT most can't!!

no they can't it's a shame her and others are confined to the same setlist with a couple of new songs each tour , I do admire Madonna for doing 1 tour no hits all new music and also doing as much new in tours after it , Dolly for doing a brief Medley of Hits to " get it out of the way " Tom Petty for the shows on Broadway with a different set list each night , and Trish Yearwood for just flat out telling an audience No when they shout out songs , and the other night Belinda Carlisle telling someone who was shouting out something she responded " I have so many songs and you want to hear that "

if Stevie can't overhaul that tired set , she need to give it it play smaller places for a$40 - $60 and just become a nostalgic oldies act , and be part of a summer package with STYX and FOGHAT

Styx (now) sux and the one and only original is going to see Dennis DeYoung do all the oldies and fan favs. Sorry, BUT he doesn't have enough new material to make a show, so we're stuck with the 70s and 80s stuff. AND, he's just a nice guy all around and very accessible to the tru fans who've stuck with him for 40 years now.

NOT to get off topic here, BUT when's the last time Stevie has been really accessible??? Meh, the 5th of Never?? I know several here have met her, as have I, BUT only because my cousin ran a Chicago radio station and I got to met her all alone in the studio during TISL and that was a LONG time ago.

Stevie really needs to get back in the studio with FM and /or Lindsey and create some "real music" that will only enhance the legend that she is........ This Dave S stuff feels like an anchor in creativity to me............DO as I say, NOT as I do!!

Reminds me of the WTTW/PBS taping event in Chicago where there were maybe 2000 people and she was kept at a great distance as well, except when she came out the stage door and had to face the great unworthy

I guess the ONLY ones in her inner circle these days are Dave S and the "Hollywood " hangers-on...................

ByAdrian Deevoy For Event Magazine Published: 17:02 EST, 23 April 2016 |

Stewart says of his musical other half Annie Lennox (pictured together, above): 'It’s a hard relationship to explain and, it’s a cliché, but we are the odd couple... It was strange from the start'

Nobody was more surprised than Dave Stewart, the bearded partner of Annie Lennox in the legendary Eurythmics, to wake up one morning in bed beside Stevie Nicks.

‘Me and Stevie had a “skirmish”,’ he says in his soft Sunderland brogue. In the spring of 1984 he had been invited to a party at the Fleetwood Mac singer’s Los Angeles home late one evening but became overwhelmed by tiredness and went in search of a boudoir.

In a scene straight out of a Carry On film, Stewart deposited his black leather stage outfit on the bedroom floor and slipped unknowingly between Stevie’s own satin sheets, only to be joined some time later by the Seventies sex symbol decked out in full Victorian attire. Skirmishing ensued.

‘Stevie reminded me about it when I was writing the book,’ he chuckles, referring to his new memoir, Sweet Dreams Are Made of This: A Life In Music. ‘She knew because she was so awake on cocaine. I was knackered, I’d just played a show in LA, I barely knew where I was. But she remembered.

‘I was just like this kid from Sunderland going, “Bloody hell, how did this happen?” Just like I did when I was sat in my kitchen in Crouch End with Bob Dylan, who was wearing a sombrero and drinking tequila.’

All the tension, conflict and drama seemed to help make Rumours a masterpiece, and something more than another MoR record. But do Stevie and Lindsey really want to go back there? The effects were quite bad enough the first time around.

Saddens me to say that. I don't want to think that you need a lot of pain and drama to make a good record. Ah well.

Stevie's work with Dave Stewart reminded me a little of the Traveling Wilburys sound, and it turned out in his book that Stewart was involved in the Wilburys also.

After The Eurythmics it seems that he wanted to go in a totally different direction musically, to separate himself from that unit and era. I get the feeling that Annie was the real lyricist in the group, and they had a good creative run together.

After 'Sweet Dreams' they ventured over to a much rockier sound, with occasional soul, on 'Be Yourself Tonight'. And then by 'Revenge' and 'Savage', the tone had changed yet again.

Dave Stewart describes Annie's vocal technique thus (being mainly Celtic myself, I can relate):

Quote:
'Not only does Annie have a distinctive sound to her voice; she has another element that is soaked in emotion and moves people to tears. It's a mixture of the sound she makes with her voice and the fact that she comes from Aberdeen, Scotland, were the musical heritage it littered with haunting airs. It is hard to explain how such sadness and beauty can come from the melodies and chord changes in Scottish or Irish airs... It's something instinctive to Annie, and coming from the northeast of England myself, I easily relate. We both grew up where the sky was filled with varying shades of gray and where a freezing northern wind blew...'
Can't help but think of the contrast with Stevie, growing up in the bright and sunny climes of Arizona and California, immersed in folk and country music. The Eurythmics work could be very dark at times (though would often retain a positive note somewhere), and so was the band that featured his second wife Siobhan Fahey 'Shakespeare's Sister'.

But something Stevie could probably relate to with Lindsey:

Quote:
'By the time we recorded Revenge, Annie and I had already been through so much together as a couple, but we still also shared whatever was going on with each of our personal lives. It was almost impossible for us not to share everything we were thinking and feeling; we discussed everything as part of the creative process. It was sometimes very painful and difficult for us and the people around us, yet in a way it was because of our unique relationship that the songs were so full of emotion: sometimes angry, sometimes full of tenderness, but always intense.'
I still like this song and being older now, can listen to it with a different perspective. Probably a good way for me to close out on this subject. As has been mentioned, Dave was very involved in the filming of the videos. For this song, he writes

Quote:
'[I was using an] 8mm cine camera in the back garden of the construction site that was to be my home on Balboa Avenue in Encino, California. It was intercut with some disturbing war and riot footage, and I inserted a nuclear explosion every time Annie sang "The Miracle of Love" as the ultimate juxtaposition... My favorite image ever of Annie is on the footage at the end of this video. I was using a long lens, and she didn't know I was shooting her. When she realized it, she smiled and started to laugh. That is always the image I think of when I miss Annie. In a few split seconds I captured on film everything I love about her.'
