Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart to Publish Revealing Memoir, "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This," Next Month

Founding Eurythmics guitarist/songwriter Dave Stewart shares stories about his fascinating and wide-ranging career in a new memoir titled Sweet Dreams Are Made of This: A Life in Music. The book, which features an introduction by Stewart friend and collaborator Mick Jagger, will be published on February 9 and will be available in hardcover, audio and electronic editions.

In the autobiography, Stewart delves into his years with Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox, including the five-year romantic relationship they had prior to the group’s formation. He also discusses his collaborations as a musician, songwriter and producer with a variety of other famous artists, including Jagger, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Daryl Hall and more.

Among the interesting tales included in Sweet Dreams Are Made of This are Stewart’s recollection of a visit he and Dylan made to the folk-rock legend’s favorite underground club, a crazy night night he spent at Nicks’ Beverly Hills residence during the 1980s and a psychedelic experience he had with Hall.

Of course, Dave also reveals stories behind the creation of many of classic Eurythmics songs, including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Here Comes the Rain Again” and “Would I Lie to You.”

“It has been a mind-blowing experience looking back on all of these adventures and wondering how I managed to survive a lot of them,” says Stewart of the memoir. “Just writing about the wild things that happened to me back in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s was exhausting. Mind you not much has changed! I must have taken a busy pill somewhere along the ride.”

the night of their 'Dont Come Around Here No More' romantic liaison, I'm sure?
Ooh. I wonder if he's prepped her in advance for that expose.

She needs to get over herself.

and the song was about Joe Walsh of the Eagles at the time, with whom she had broken UP with the night before................

My understanding is she broke up with Joe and immediately spent the night with Dave. When she kicked him out in the morning he wrote the song after she said 'Dont come round here no more'. Can't remember whether she made the comment to Joe or Dave. Joe I think.

Apparently Dave overheard it and it was a reference to Joe as in "Dont Come Round Here no More."

NOW, as to whether Stevie and Dave did the deed, UGGH, I surely hope not!! A true gentleman would never tell. BUT, her choice in men has not always been stellar too.

they sure did. Twice, according to Dave. Once that night and once again in the morning.

Tis true.

And she knew he would talk about it and was fine with it.

She invited him to party at her house. She was off with her girls, high as a kite, staying up all night putting on different outfits and the like. She was into very frilly frou-frou Victorian nightgowns and dressings gowns and such in those days. She stumbled into the bedroom where he had gone to crash out after she'd forgotten about him with her friends. They took a tumble. Then another.

There was something in the story about him wearing like leather pants that laced up on the front and in the morning she was all like, "you need to go!" ( I can't recall if it was because Joe was coming by or something...anyway) and fumbling with trying to do up the laces on his trousers. Oy.

Here is an interview with Dave on Howard Stern many years ago. He says that Joe and Stevie are ok with this story being told. He met Stevie the night after he broke up with Joe Walsh. He did not know who she was and she did not know who he was. Crazy night back and Stevie's place where they made romantic love twice. Stevie got up and told him he had to go because someone was coming to collect his clothes. But too late, Joe was there. The inspiration for the mad hatter theme on the video Don't Come around here no more was Stevie's house. Dave found out Jimmy Iovine was living with Stevie and Tom was coming over and it was so insane it reminded him of the mad hatter tea party from Alice in Wonderland. The Stevie story begins around 6:50

Still confused

Who was Stevie telling to "Dont Come Around here no more??" Joe or Dave or whom?? If it were Dave, I'd understand, BUT she truly loved Joe and has alluded to this in many non-Pinocchio interviews.

Did you listen to the interview? She says it to Joe. The night before they broke up after the Wild Heart Tour. Dave was in Stevie's bed when he heard Joe's voice downstairs and Stevie said to Joe "Don't come around here no more." Dave wrote the song for Stevie but Tom Petty wanted it because he said Stevie had one of his songs SDMHA on Bella Donna and he wanted the song which Stevie said ok. In the beginning of the video you can see Dave on top of the mushroom as the mad hatter. Early in this interview Dave explains he dropped acid a lot and it led to his creativity.
Very very wild wild times indeed.
