if by "we" you mean Stevie is better off - sure, she's better off if we didn't know it. if this was not out, it would look like all the macsters don't want the album and haven't done anything on it, not just her.

maybe others in the FM are tired of being blamed for no new albums from FM, or for how long it supposedly takes for them to put the album together, when they actually want new albums more than anyone?

The more I think about it the more I think Richard really hasn't got a clue. Though he might speak to a couple of them every now and then I'm not sure he's really privy to what's going on.

I've just spent 10 minutes looking back through Dave Stewart's twitter (it reminded me that Twitter's such a pile of sh!t, waste of people's lives- apologies to those Ledgies that tweet) and there's absolutely nothing to suggest he might have been doing any production for Stevie. He seems to have been so busy promoting his book and doing so many other things it would seem difficult to fit in any sort of production for Stevie Nicks (but who knows- he does seem to always be able to juggle a lot of projects). That's not to say there aren't any future plans.

Richard did say it's something he heard or read somewhere... he really doesn't know- probably read something on here at some point.

The fact that Waddy and Jimmy are touring is the most telling of all. The Dixie Chicks tour is huge, Joe Walshs' is smaller, but the timeline could suggest recording with the Mac in the spring. She's no fool. She's not gunna waste any time while she's still healthy. There hasn't been a year of inactivity in over 20 years. Something is in the works.

I still think y'all are off base. I don't think Stevie would ever get her songs on a Fleetwood Mac album without Fleetwood Mac members actually playing on her songs. All she is doing right now (if she's actually doing anything at all) is getting help from Dave in regards to transforming her poetry into demo form. She can then bring those demos to Fleetwood Mac for them to craft into completed songs. This is exactly the way she's worked for 35 years. Rewatch Destiny Rules- Stevie only shows up to the recording of Say You Will once she's gotten her demos ready for prime time. That's ALL that's going on here.

Stevie is smart. She knows she can't sell lots of material like she used to do. She only gets 13 days in a studio because the record company knows it's not going to spend $$$ for months on end for an album that won't sell.. She's playing casinos, touring w/ Rod Stewart...

With FMac... She gets her own limo, flies in the FM jet, gets multi million payoff...

I do respect that despite having to go a little cheaper, she still puts out a small machine. But, it's time for her to contribute to the band that got her there. She can make some magic. It's been a mutually beneficial gig for all the members. Here's hoping..

And who is to say Dave won't join the whole band in the studio come April (if Christine's quote from that recent interview is accurate) and work primarily on Stevie's tracks, with Lindsey also participating to some extent in overseeing the overall production of the album?

They talked extensively in the past about bringing in an outside producer for the album (LB's choice being Mitchell Froom), so that's not a new idea. And having that outside producer (here, Dave Stewart) working only on Stevie's songs also doesn't seem too out of the ordinary for this band. Why not have Dave and LB share co-production credit's on Stevie's songs?

Excellent idea, Josh2003. Dave Stewart made Stevie's songs on 'In Your Dreams' sound magical; more like Stevie than she has sounded since the early 80's.

I love Dave Stewart, and I think the collaboration with Lindsey will make Fleetwood Mac sound more like Fleetwood Mac than they have since 'Mirage' / 'Tango'.

With the momentum they have with 'Extended Play' ('Sad Angel', 'Miss Fantasy') as well as the latest interview with Christine saying the new music sounds a bit like 'Rumours', bringing Stevie in co-produced by Dave and Lindsey sounds like a prefect formula.

I only hope it will be a double album like the Eagles' 'Long Road Out of Eden'.

I think you're spot on. But remember Dave wrote most of the music for most of the songs on IYD so I think she's getting more than just a little help from him. I believe she's actually writing the songs with him. Her ability to write music seems to have faded in recent years.

Still, it is a pity that she doesn't bring in her poetry and rough pianodemos to lindsey. In my opinion her last good FM song is on mirage.

I thought he made Stevie's In Your Dreams songs sound okay- nothing special and certainly not 'magical'. If he were to produce any FM songs like IYD then I'd predict it being quite a bland FM album. I hope this doesn't happen.

Though I have no reason to believe there's any bad blood between Lindsey and Dave I have a feeling Lindsey would rather eat his Turner Model 1 than allow Dave Stewart to have production credits on a Fleetwood Mac album.

I agree with you 100%. Dave Stewart was genius with the Eurothmics. But his stuff with Tom Petty was odd and his stuff with Stevie was bland. It was good but I would prefer to hear Lindsey and Christine mold Stevie's raw demos than them being brought with Dave's influence.

Amusingly, Lindsey was the first one to float this idea publicly, not Stevie.

How far along are you in planning a new Fleetwood Mac album?

We aren’t far along in any specific sense. My mantra is to work on my dynamic with Stevie. She was a little uncomfortable when we got on the road last time, for whatever reason. Part of it was that she missed Christine, part of it was that I was getting 50 percent of the face time onstage and she wasn’t used to having a guy get all that space. I think it threw her context out a little. So this time around I am very much wanting to make everyone as comfortable as possible and have that be the most important thing. But we have discussed, when this tour is done, going into the studio. The only specific we know is that we are leaning toward finding an outside producer. I think it would help to have an overviewer. It was pretty hard taking the reins last time. Not so much with the music but with the band politics.

Have any producers in mind?

We had a short list, but I have no idea. We’ve talked about everyone form Daniel Lanois to Dave Stewart to Rick Rubin. That pretty much runs the gamut of approaches. We have to meet with a few people and see how it feels.
