UK gigs - Special Guests??

I don't think it's where she's at. But I'm probably totally wrong.

Peter Green is probably the one other person in FM's history that I'd believe Lindsey has enough respect for to invite up on stage for a special number, but I don't see that happeneing at all. Oh, sorry {ip ~ um, I mean.. You never know!

The thing is, back from 1975-78...basically from the time Lindsey & Stevie joined til the end of what would be called the Rumours tour, Welch WOULD come out and jam on "Hypnotized" or "Sentimental Lady".

The only other person besides Welch that I've heard make a special appearance with the Rumours lineup was in 1982 at Irvine Meadows, California, Don Henley came out to sing "Leather & Lace" with Stevie...DURING A FLEETWOOD MAC SHOW! (how bizzzzahhh!) That probably was the "straw" with Lindsey...having to play a Stevie solo tune and her singing a duet with Henley.

Sure, I would think that Christine would be welcome to join them if she was there...however, the whole "Christine McVie has retired and isn't a part of this tour" hype that all the reviewers keep harping on, I wonder if that would put any kind of kabosh on any "guest spots" in the UK for her. I would think that if she DOES attend a show and DOESN'T join them on stage, that would speak volumes about the relationship.

Hmmm I guess so. I must admit I've been viewing this from the 'Lindsey's regard for Christine' angle until now ... Dissention made me realise it could be that Chris doesn't have that great a regard for Lindsey ... beyond the whole music spectrum. And it fits with Chris' remarks about the 'US elements of FM not having as much of a sense of humour' and her actions against him during the NZ tour, and what I'm coming to realise as his generally cruel and immature antics while doped up down under during the Tusk tour - if he was like that even sometimes on stage, just imagine what he could have been like away from the public eye.... So yeah I'm beginning to see it from the angle that whereas Lindsey may have time for Christine, the feeling may not be requited. I always was curious as to why Chris stuck around so concertedly after Lindsey left ... perhaps it was Stevie she really enjoyed the company of most?

Ah, just when I thought the Fleetwood Mac soap opera was over and all relationships clearly defined, it's like there's a new season for me!

I just want Chris to be able to let us give her a standing ovation, we haven't been able to say 'goodbye' to her. I know she's working on solo material, but it would be nice to be able to show our appreciation.

As for Peter Green, I can think of no better way of being able to show how much we appreciate what he started all those years ago.

I don't think we'll see Peter on stage, I don't think huge venues are his style, but I'm sure Chris would be right at home at Earls Court!

Well, I'd like to think that they would be professional about it and not let their huge ego's get in the way.... She's contributed a lot to FM over the years and deserves her moment in the sun!

Anyhow, my theory is that after all the healing that has gone on in recent years and now that the band is no longer on mind altering substances, if Chris wants to perform with the band she'll be more than welcome. I'll bet Mick has already invited her - let's hope.

I doubt Mick has invited her. Consider this:

Chris stopped touring with the band after the BTM tour. However, she continued to write material for the band for the Time album. Then, when it came time for SYW, Mick came out and said that they didn't even bother to ask her if she wanted to contribute tracks to the album or even to contribute a few vocals to some songs. He said that it wouldn't be practical to have her write songs and then not tour. So, it was okay back in '95 but not now??? It has to do with Lindsey, no doubt. And his ego is probably a bit too big for him to "allow" Chris to join them onstage; she'd steal his thunder. If his ego has nothing to do with it and he just thinks that she left the band and should have nothing to do with it, then he's a pretty shallow thinker.

I bet the sticking point with Mick is that if Lindsey didn't want CM songs on SYW, then they wouldn't be, he (LB) would get his way because MF feels he NEEDS to keep SN/LB on his good side. THEY run the band now in effect.

If LB was NOT interfering in that decision, then I can't see Mick turning down CM material for SYW as that would be a "true" Rumours lineup album (his wet dream) hence more money.

I don't think he would care if people went to SYW tour shows expecting to see CM there and then saying "hey, where is she? she's not here?" He'll get money off of that ticket sale anyways (whether they were happy with the show or not). Whatever way he can make the most money is what Mick cares about.

I wouldn't like to think that LB has this "I need to respect them enough before they make a guest appearance at a show" type of attitude but he probably does though, who knows. JMHO though.

I cannot imagine FM would not invite CM to sing Songbird at the end. CM probably, however, will decline as she seems to have shut that door, etc. So, from that point of view, I cannot say I would hold it against her although I would kill to see it if it occurred, etc.

I am hoping and praying that Chris will make an appearance on at least one of the UK shows. I think it would be fitting as she has had a massive part to play in the overall success of FMac. It would be such a treat for us Brits too!
Hope we get to read all the details of any meetings between the band and Chris

Certainly, date wise Peter Green seems to be open for the Earls Court gigs.

I don't believe it would happen though. I had a half hour chat with Peter face to face in October 2001 and one of the questions I asked him was if there was a chance he would guest at a Mac gig over here the following year (I thought 2002 would be the tour year). He really didn't think it would happen, as I recall he said it was too commercial and too big a gig for him to guest, almost like they had sold out to a degree. Maybe too much about the business and not enough of the music in the "music business". His body language also suggested it wouldn't happen (a few shrugs and so on). Although he did say he was still in regular contact with Mick.

But you never know, Peter is in even better health these days and there is a remote possibility.

I do think there is a strong possibility of Mick and maybe John guesting at one of the Splinter Group gigs at the Jazz Cafe in London on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 1oth December. Much more realistic. Anybody in the vicinity should get a ticket.. You never know.....
