Well, in a song you have to. Darling, baby, angel are just there because how are you going to slip "Buck" into a lyric smoothly? What even rhymes with it?

I would be more interested in what they still call each other in real life, aside from Stevie, Lindsey and Linds. In real conversation those "honeys" mean a lot, but no so much in a song.

They do and they don't, but yeah I loved it at the NO show when the bug flew in her mouth and when she came back onstage & said she would try to get through and if not "Lindsey will be singing lead on this next song...you can do it, honey!"

i mostly dislike it or just take it as a part of the local folklore, but in some parts of the country all cashiers and shop clerks call every customer honey.

Ok, honey.
lolol. you are from the South right?

first we talked about the poetic license, second we talked about throwing names across the stage. you know, we have multidimensional conversations, even though some people always end up in the same place regardless of where they start.

Hahaha. Well it is "all the same, all the same, baby"

And, yes, I am from the South.

see my post above, plus look at that whole thread i linked to for different interpretations. there are some really good ones there, once a person takes off S+L blinders.
I think your interpretation is great and very insightful. However, I do still think I am correct in saying the song is about Stevie.

Here's a 2007 interview with Doug Fox where Lindsey explains what Cast Away Dreams is about.

" I guess the imagery was really just about the idea of someone who is trying to do the right thing - this is not what I did - but it was sort of imagining being in the position of someone who's wanting to make the right choice, who's wanting to prioritize properly and in order to do that, they're feeling like they pretty much have to give up their MUSE."

http://

You take this interview, add it to the story he told over and over again during the Under the Skin Tour, add the song's lyrics saying "magic one all our dreams are done", as well as "so, sleep and dream of me" and I don't see how you can come up with any other explanation except, Lindsey and Kristen were fighting about Lindsey and Stevie's relationship and Lindsey decided (in 2003) that he needed to let his dreams, ideas, goals with Stevie go for the good of his family. I know it's not a popular idea on this board, but to me it appears it is valid. Or should I say possibly valid.

I have no real opinion or interpretation of this song. But, if it is about Stevie - he said whatever it was he did not do the right thing. So, your conclusion would be incorrect that he let "his dreams, ideas, goals with Stevie go for the good of his family" based on his statement.

No, what he said was that they were TRYING to do the right thing and make the right choice.

Okay, I always felt this song was about Kristen. That he's talking to Kristen. And I still do. But this part was always what tripped me up:

Magic one all our dreams are done I
have no faith today
Sun will rise in your newborn eyes just
let me slip away
I won't be home tonight I'll just slip out
of sight

WHO is Magic one? The way it's written, it's the same person that has newborn eyes, right? Unless he's mixing his tenses

So either he's talking to Will, or he's doing something we know, based on Destiny Rules doc., that he would never do.

Or...maybe he just likes the sound of Magic One. I don't know if Bob Dylan would approve, or not, but what does Lindsey care? He does what he wants to do.

But maybe it's not that deep. Obviously he was arguing with Kristen about something. Something that happened around the time of Will's birth. So, I think Magic One is his weed pipe. The argument was about his smoking. She wanted him to give it up, and so he decided to cast it away into the waste basket. But not before slipping out of sight for one last toke.

wait wasn't CAD written during SYW tour? that would be the time of his youngest child birth (not that it matters).

in what other songs does he mention "magic one"? in relation to?

when i re-read the lyrics and listened to that interview clip that Deeshere posted i started thinking the same thing - he says in all these interviews and intros he was having fight with and then talking to Kristen the next morning after he played her the song that he wrote for her, so why are we taking his words as he's talking to someone else? isn't she the one he has a home with? and isn't she the one who had a newborn baby, at that very home at that time? that he will not come back to that night, but he will be back after he finishes mourning his cast away dreams?

(i don't think a person he's talking to is a newborn / has newborn eyes, i think person he's talking to is looking in the eyes of their newborn.)

lolol - love it Lindsfan! that must be it!! magic one is his weed pipe, taking him to magical places, while neglecting his home life.

See, YOU get it. I knew you'd understand.

So it should be "In your newborn's eyes"? ...but it's just beautiful the way it's written.

considering this is interview and words may not come out exactly as one wants them, i think what he was saying was that:
a) he became a much better lyricist and not as literal as he used to be, and he mentioned CAD as an example of his more mature lyrics.
b) "this is not what I did" could be taken as, these lyrics as written are not necessarily literally about me.

i'm not sure, i didn't look at the lyrics on the CD sleeve, i just looked at one of those free online lyric sites and those don't always have it right. so i just assumed it was written wrong.

i don't know, i always took it as telling the person as they were looking in the eyes of their newborn... but you know english is not my first language so i may be wrong.
