This is so true! Lindsey and his crew (Dashut, etc..) have been at the board for most of the Fleetwood Mac productions since 1977. I've always wondered what an outside producer could do for them. I realize it would be extremely difficult for Lindsey to give up control. I'd love to see a Fleetwood Mac album produced by Mitchell Fromme, T-Bone Burnett, Rick Rubin........????

I used to have built in cabinets, but they couldn't move with me, so I got new shelves, but they aren't as spacious. And I was unpacking books and running out of shelf space and Dickens' has these 1000 page tomes I haven't even scratched yet and I was just shaking my head and thinking. "Wow. I need to let Chuck go. He has finally exhausted me." Not that IYD or SWS compare to The Old Curiousity Shop, but . . .

I guess it depends on what you're definition of 'good' is. The only popular artist I can think of who puts out albums relatively rapidly is Rihanna. She constantly has #1s, but I personally find most if not all of her music insufferable.

but not all of them were good, or a good reflection of the artist being produced. I still think Jimmy did the best job of capturing and refining the "Stevie-ness" of her music.

That said, I agree he wouldn't be the most realistic choice given where he's at his own career these days. But I wasn't aware we were trying to be realistic!

you may have your wish already half fulfilled - see my post above. if Lindsey has his way, Mitchell Froom will be the producer of the upcoming FM album. he already produced 8 songs they recorded so far.

Well, remember that Lindsey co-produced his original GOS material (that was tacked onto SYW) with Rob Cavallo. In addition, Lindsey worked with John Shanks on WTWCT & "Peacemaker" - as I recall, Lindsey was impressed w/Shanks' work on Stevie's TISL, esp. POTU. So it's interesting that when it came to Stevie's material for SYW, Lindsey was the sole producer, enlisting no additional help, which produced uneven results imo. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, among other things, Stevie's songs sounded cold and overly treble-y, which does not flatter Stevie's mature voice. Mitchell Froom is an amazing producer, with some incredible sounding records under his belt, I look forward to his contributions at the control board.

Country artists tend to get them out faster as well.

You know, instead of the rule carved in stone out of the Ten Commandments that Moses brought down from the mountain about touring every 3 years, maybe they should have had a rule about recording every three years.

Doing calculations of what was possible, I think our biggest loss was not having an album in between Mirage and Tango. Then, understanding that they needed to break up, maybe they could have come back together before 1997 and we could have gotten an album in 1994, before Chris left.

I think we were cheated of two studio albums, not counting what we aren't getting right now in 2013.

Wow. I sure do not hear anything approaching "warm sonics" on BellaDonna. I hear cheap and thin stuff heavily influenced by the Heartbreakers, supremely unsuited to Stevie's voice and basically leaving her previous mystique and allure in tatters.

Overall, I was very happy with the work that followed on TISL. I love "Sorcerer" (a track that I first heard Marilyn Martin do) and "Candlebright" I was also pleased with John Shanks' production of "Planets". Then again, I'm also partial to Dave Stewart......I'm new here, but it seems most ledgies either love Dave S. or hate him. Personally, I fell in love with their partnership on "In Your Dreams".......

What are your thoughts on Sheryl Crow's work with the high priestess? I'm surprised we haven't seen much of them together lately. It seems that Stevie and Sheryl were joined at the hip from 1998--2002. I must also add that, at the end of the day, I would buy a record of Stevie Nicks snoring if that was what was produced. I absolutely adore her and find guilty pleasure in even her most questionable songs. "Children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee..........
Watchchain, I agree with you about this! As long as we get new material from her I'm okay with her working with anyone at this stage especially Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers!

Same here! Speaking of Courtney, maybe she should produce Stevie's next album!

Maybe in Courtney's drugged out days, but she is fairly competent sober.

Yeah, how well she gets along with the producer in the studio is key. There have been so many examples of producer conflicts that have ultimately affected the quality of the final product.

I voted Dave Stewart. Fact is: he gets 'er done.

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Billy Corgan was Courtney's guru. If he can make Courtney sound good, he definitely can make Stevie sound great.
