There have been other FM boards, too. Some public, some private.

I'm glad you haven't removed yours. Not that long ago, I visited it to read some of the old SYW concert reviews. I only posted at Seven Wonders in the beginning and it got old pretty fast for me. Anybody remember Burnish? The administrator (Tracey?) posted one day she was taking a break and then she never came back. |

I remember Burnish net.It was one of my first Stevie/FM sites I visited when I first got the internet.Along with Nicksfix before it became Stevie's official website.

You're absolutely right that depth is better in the objective sense, but when you're pressed for time, it's often the first thing sacrificed. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but again, it factors into message board activity level. Quote:
I also remember Burnish.net. It was such an interesting and unique site. I never posted on the message board, but I remember there was a lot of drama that precipitated its fall, and it seemed the webmaster Tracey took it personally and lost interest in the site once the message board was closed. If I recall, it did get kind of personal... Lux and some other girl (I think her name was Danielle?) posting controversial stuff and being unhappy with their treatment by Tracey, division between groups of members with accusations of favoritism, some disaffected members starting an alternative board. I was friends with many of those involved and watched it all happen from the outside since I didn't post there, but I remember that at the time it all seemed like such a big deal - we were all so emotionally invested in the fandom and all its aspects that message board drama took on a life of its own. I have found that many webmasters don't separate the worth of the message board from the worth of the larger site. I wish she would've kept the site up and just closed the board if the drama was too much for her, but it seems that in many cases the webmaster's personal investment fades without the message board's social aspect and encouragement from fellow fans. Obviously, if there's no personal investment on the part of the webmaster, there's no reason to keep paying for domain and bandwidth that even static maintenance without updating requires. I have always said that I spent too much time creating my site to let it go and so I plan on continuing to pay those fees no matter what, but I understand why other webmasters might not feel the same way and may want to save their money. (When BuckinghamNicks.net goes offline, ask where to send the flowers, 'cause it means I'm dead.) Quote:

Seven Wonders was really getting stale approximately 2-3 years ago! It slowly but surely began to serve a narrowing point of view along with lacking overall of engaging dialogue. I must have posted last on SW approximately right after IYD dropped but stopped even visiting many many months ago (so long I even lost track). SW seemingly suffered a painstaking long demise unlike other fan sites like sararhiannon & burnish.net which disappeared quickly and seemed gone in a blink.
And though it kinda sad to see another FM board bite the dust, Most interestingly, I see it as a referendum towards where one gets the quickest and most convenient access to current FM news bites in the internet social network. After all … firstly, I believe, getting the most current up to date information on The Mac and its band members is what drove most of us to participate, visit, or lurk on these boards to begin with. Secondly, would be to hash out & debate the news (or rumors) of the day with other fan members if one was so inclined. SW really stopped having current news updates, and the postings and traffic became static. Even though The Ledge has always been more robust, I sure hope the same fate does not happen on this board. I only say this because I have noticed quite a drop-off in current event postings and discourse over the last year. |

Nancy, it seems to me that less people eventually posted on BuckinghamNicks.net partially because of the Seven Wonders website but your message board was the first Stevie Nicks-related message board I registered on(almost ten years ago) and I always enjoyed the website and learned so much about the more obscure music of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. I'm very grateful to you for that.

Thanks Travis! Those were good times.
![]() If I recall correctly, Seven Wonders was created during a period when The Ledge was down for a couple weeks as a temporary alternate, then continued afterwards by appealing to certain demographics that felt a little marginalized or inhibited elsewhere. Since the site was built around the message board, it's natural that it would take a longer time to "die." Static sites like sararhiannon.com don't have a visible decline like that. She chose to shut down her site for other reasons. I miss that one, too! Last edited by sodascouts; 08-15-2012 at 04:24 PM.. |

I also noticed a huge loss of members on sevenwonders after Timeless Barbara was banned. After her exit the site died a long, slow death.

to trade music with Sara at sararhiannon.com and Tracy at burnish.net - Two reliable people in the trading circles who had great websites.
