Depth is important!!

There's nothing like Fleetwood Mac; it's greater than the sum of all its parts (IMHO). I'm not talking about the "Unleashed" trot-out-the-hits Fleetwood Mac, but the creative Fleetwood Mac.
Facebook does take a lot of traffic from message boards because it's so much simpler to hit "like" and make a one-line comment on an announcement than it is to think of a cogent reply on a message board to a more involved post. People used to come to the message board not only to chat but to get news, and now they don't need to get news here, so there's a drop off.
It's true you can't easily have meaningful and involved conversations on Facebook because once an item drops off the feed, it's forgotten - and most posts are news announcements, photos, and videos, things that aren't going to inspire a lot of deep thoughts.
That said, I enjoy the FM/Stevie/Lindsey Facebook pages a great deal and appreciate those who maintain them. They may not be conducive to discussion, but they do allow people to keep up to date and keep FM visible. Plus, those photos and videos are fun!
The lack of depth is a weakness of Facebook in one sense, but in another sense, it's a strength. Depth takes time and effort. I used to spend ages on LiveJournal typing out all my thoughts, but after getting used to doing one-sentence updates on Facebook, I gave LJ up because of the time it took. I did this in spite of the fact that what I was putting on Facebook wasn't nearly as deep. It makes me a bit sad that I no longer keep a ledger of my life, but every time I get the urge to go back, the time factor shuts it down. Facebook is easier and faster, and people like that.
However, Facebook has a lot of drawbacks, and I predict that eventually - just like MySpace - it will lose its appeal and folks will move on to the next thing. That may or may not include a return to message boards. Regardless, I hope the message boards stay around, if only for their archival value. That's why I haven't deleted mine despite the fact it's closed - the archival value of it.

Well, I'm probably one of the few who 'doesn't do FB & has no desire to. I like the message boards as well. There's nothing wrong with being a 'deep' person with alot of insight. Thats what life IS about really. How we share things with others & communicate those feelings. I agree depth does take time lots of time but isn't it better to be deep with feelings than shallow & not really care about anything?? Heck I remember writing fanzine letters that would be pages & pages long. Of course that was the 'old' snail mail days when I had penpals about Mac/Stevie. I do miss those days believe it or not. Getting things instant now by way of info can be nice but it can also be a let down too. So I do encourge you to not stop your depth of whatever you have that depth of feeling for.
