I'm supposing the problem is the need to make money. With a new album, they couldn't tour for at least another year, right? I mean, they can't just go into the studio and whip something out in a few months. Rather, they maybe could, but they won't.
There's truth in SN's statement about no one buying records, but my assumption is that their general audience (boomers) makes up a significant portion of the people actually still buying physical records. They could work out a similar deal to The Eagles and see some success, but do you think the label is willing to gamble on new material again? I'm not sure how much money they put into SYW...did they make much profit on it? Susan |

Why does anyone think artists are only in it for the "art"? That's just absurd! This is a business. Of course they want to make money. Lol!

But why do the members of Fleetwood Mac need to make quite so much money when they tour? They've all been making Big Money all their adult lives. Can't they do one micro-tour, playing exactly the sorts of venues that Buckingham and Fleetwood do when they play solo? They book themselves into arenas and amphitheaters every tour, and therefore have to be "Fleetwood Mac" to everyone involved: audiences of half a million to a million, bookers, lawyers, agents, and the press—all for one purpose: to pocket several million dollars. What would be so bad about doing a single tour as "fleetwood mac" (lowercase), playing new songs (or old songs that never get played) in little theaters for a few months, keeping the backing low key, and if necessary footing the bill for their own traveling? Nobody expects this band of multimillionaires to turn against capitalism all of a sudden. But why have they all turned their entire creative lives as a band into a marketing onslaught? Is it that painful that the need for enormous compensation is so great? Did they get so sick of Rumours that they needed to release its material on twenty different CDs over the years? Even in a Big Business like rock and roll, this band has been stand-out crassly commercial since it hit #1 on the charts. I think their brains have experienced a Darwinian adaptation to recognize only the reality of the dollar.

I never said that. So you are making an argument against a straw man.

![]() I believe Stevie & Lindsey are comfortable financially. Lindsey probably doesn't need to tour small venues or do meet & greets - he's doing it because he wants to and that's great! I mean, he could probably just sit on his duff and bathe in money if he wanted to. But he also has 3 kids and kids aren't cheap! Mick is opening a nice looking new restaurant and is getting a divorce with kids involved; also not cheap. More and more artists are just touring these days because there's no money to be made in albums. I don't think there's any shame in it. Everybody's gotta make a living. If Fleetwood Mac can afford to make an album without expecting it to make bank, I believe they should go for it, but that's not really my decision, unfortunately! |

Rephrase: Why would you think Stevie shouldn't be in it for the money? Or why do you insinuate that she is wicked, evil, mean and nasty because "it's all about the sales for her"? I don't think she's ever made any bones about wanting the money and enjoying the benefits of having a lot of it.

And as much as I'm sure DOES love the art of it, too, but of course it's also about money - Stevie doesn't do anything else. This is her livelihood and her carreer. Sure, she could probably live for the rest of her life (given a somewhat more toned down lifestyle, perhaps), off what she already has and the royalties that will keep coming in and never have to tour again or put out another album or step out in public.. but if she wants to continue her current lifestyle and she is able to do that by touring and stuff, why shouldn't she?

Stevie can't be making a bunch of money on this solo tour...yes she gets her guarantee but she has a lot of musicians to pay as well. I saw a Groupon offer for Va Beach tix. At least Lindsey tours lean and mean and plays smaller venues. He wants $$ too...his wife spends it quickly plus he has three kids etc...his expenses are growing. Literally.
