Exactly. Stevie is very afraid of doing new material with FM because she says everyone coming to see them want to hear the hits. I know you have to play Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way, Don't Stop, Dreams...but why not Angel or That's Alright or Sisters of the Moon? That isn't new material. She also said around Christmas that FM won't do a new record because no one buys records. I think she has been frustrated by the sales and lack of support for IYD which I get. But FM has enough of a catalog that they could do a fresh tour with songs already recorded.

They could still do a tour without having a new release and play "new" old songs that haven't been played in decades or at all.

Not to mention, if she's been touting her new found idea on her current tour of doing a "non greatest hits" set... which is really about half and half with a cover thrown in... then why would it be so awful to give the FM set a good shake up by doing a third BN, a third old ignored FM album cuts/set list songs, and a third of the true hits: Rhiannon, GYOW, Gypsy, etc.

I wish they would listen to their fans. We have good ideas. Michele's right about new arrangements, for instance. Gypsy acoustic would be awesome. Lindsey changed Go Insane back to it's original arrangement on the last FM tour. Some changes are definitely in order. Put in Stephanie and drop NGBA and Big Love.

The diehards are the ones you're playing to anyway and they will love it. The others are just coming to get drunk and to say they saw FM, so they'll never even notice, because they're the ones in the audience going, "Oh, wow -- I didn't know they did this song!"

i really hope both Lindsey and Stevie are on board with this idea for the next FM tour. when i talked to Lindsey he certainly seemed to be. and now Stevie seems to be saying the same thing.

actually, that's how all Lindsey's solo sets were/are constructed - about half hits and half new songs and/or deep cuts.

but Big Love can never leave the set. however many times i heard it live it was ALWAYS spectacular. same with So Afraid.

That's because Stevie takes EVERYTHING to be about two people who were in a duo.... I agree that Dave could have been writing about anything at all.. I don't think he's fixated on his past with Annie Lennox the way Stevie is fixated...sometimes just stuck.. on her relationship with Lindsey.

I start to wonder if it's just laziness...or something... why think of new, different, things to write about when you can go back to that same old well over and over and over and over again....... Her really early songs (before FM) had a broader variety of themes and characters.

Sometimes I'd like to challenge her to write a song that doesn't use the words "broke my heart" (i'm going to have to back and count how many times that shows up on IYD), "tears", "dreams", "angel".....

Same here. I think you should try to get this point across when you do your next Tour de Lindsey!

I remember in 2009 when Stevie said Unleashed would be our only chance to see FM do a "greatest hits" re-hash. Maybe she was being honest in a way and they'll do deep cuts. A girl can dream....

Well, they probably wouldn't have to paper the upper balcony like they did in many cities on the last tour. I think die hard fans would go to shows or even multiple shows if they rolled out other material. These are the people that buy the majority of the tickets. If die hards stay away because it's a re-hash of the last two tours for $125, then you have lost your base.

Considering that Stevie and Lindsey will have been on the road for 18 mos with solo projects, many fans will have seen one or both recently as well. They will need to do something different to excite promoters and fans.

The Eagles Long Road out of Eden had the advantage of being their first studio album since 1979 plus their exclusive deal with the devil er Walmart helped propel sales in 2007 ..not sure if even that would work out so well today.
