Vote for your favorite BN era song written by LB.
Note: Not included is the co-write Frozen Love (Lindsey's contribution was the guitar solo per Stevie) and the instrumental only, Stephanie. Hard choice for me - I love Without a Leg to Stand On, but DLMDA is just a super fun/catchy song. My only complaint is the lyric. The song title is never in it and it drives me nuts.

![]() i like just one of these songs... yeah Django and FL should have been included in some of the other polls, but i just didn't remember BN stuff at the time for some reason... probably b/c when we started discussing which songs to include in which poll we realized how many we are forgetting, so i went to amazon and just copied all LB songs available for DL there that are listed either under his name or under FM. and then we started adding what was missing but nobody suggested these at the time (probably my fault b/c i was impatient to get started). |

(remember the Tusk doc when LB says to SN something like "sing your melody for me - to see whether we are going to keep any of it" as they are figuring out the melody for Angel?) |

Without A Leg To Stand On. Tough choice though. Deliberated for awhile as I really like DLMDA too.

that just shows you how clueless i am about the music business i guess! producers discard the original melody and add new one all the time with no credit for songwriting?!?!?!? or do they give it to the team of songwriters to change it (i guess that happens a lot with today's pop stars, have no clue who's credited for those melodies?). well, if somebody puts the melody together and the lyric songwriter gets all the credit that's just wrong imo. whatever happened in LB's case and with their entangled relationship i understand why he wouldn't take or get any credit, but other producers?! |

I love the catchiness of DLMDA. It has this "chug-a-lug" sort of guitar work throughout that just....I dig it!

It is a gray area though, I agree. I used to think all the time that LB deserved credit on a lot of Stevie's stuff (if not almost all), but then again if she had the melody and the lyrics, he really was doing the producer's job - not necessarily playing the role of "co-writer". Also, I think a lot of this has changed in recent years with ghost writers, etc. If you can't write music I guess they "pair" you with someone who can, never mind your little three chord structure. I can agree with bombaysaffires about "Frozen Love" - and this is why Stevie wanted Lindsey to have credit - she said he worked for over a year on the guitar solo until he had perfected it. Although, their collaborations on Stevie's material are so intertwined - I think it's why Christine described what they do as "writing songs together" and they got along very well when they were doing that - to me, that says a lot about their relationship professionally and even personally. They may disagree a lot, but it seems they hash it out until they come to a compromise and I would suspect are both happy with the end result - and probably proud of it. In the DR doc, he says he's thinking of cutting the guitar solo in a song - and before he can even finish she says "in half" and then she agrees. They've been doing that sort of thing for so many years and probably trust each each others judgement more than anyone. It doesn't mean they always agree, but when they do sometimes it is "magic". They complement (especially then) their strengths and weaknesses. I mean "Rhiannon" is a beautiful song Stevie wrote, but it became a rock anthem when Lindsey wrote the opening riff. And, Lindsey has referred to "Gypsy" as their greatest collaboration, but he is not credited as a "co-writer", he obviously looks at his involvement strictly as a producer. But, then on their most recent effort, "Soldier's Angel" which Stevie praised him glowingly for - he is not even credited as producer. I guess in a lot of ways they still see each other as a "package deal" musically.

Without A Leg to Stand On. DLMDA is a good one as well but I've never been that fond of Lola. It just plods along without really doing anything particularly interesting.

Without A Leg To Stand On will always be my favourite Buckingham Nicks song. It's even up there amongst the best of Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. It's a beautiful, melodic song which I fell in love with on the first listen. Nothing could beat the euphoric line "Nobody wants to keep you when you're in love with the game", where Lindsey brings the note up high and swoops it back down to earth in a wonderful crescendo.

![]() I know I'm not choosing Lola. Without a Leg to Stand On and Don't Let Me Down Again are so close for me...sooooo close. Without a Leg is so cool and mellow...reminds me of something between Seals and Croft and Three Dog Night! Don't Let Me Down is just so fun and catchy. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I just didn't think it was fair to put an instrumental in with the others. I know that I don't look at it the same as I do his other songs. To me, all his instrumentals are in a class unto themselves.

come on people, please add more votes - we need to break this tie!!
![]() in the poll of just 3 songs, having 2 songs go on may be a bit of an overkill... |

I am really surprised those these two songs are so close! Exciting to see such love for a BN only song, since they have performed DLMDA with FM.
Of course, I would love more BN choices to move forward. ![]()
