"When someone you love dies, and you’re not expecting it, you don’t lose her all at once; you lose her in pieces over a long time — the way the mail stops coming, and her scent fades from the pillows and even from the clothes in her closet and drawers. Gradually, you accumulate the parts of her that are gone. Just when the day comes — when there’s a particular missing part that overwhelms you with the feeling that she’s gone, forever — there comes another day, and another specifically missing part."

We all grieve differently, as I've learned after my Mom's somewhat sudden passing in 2008. She was 60. I still am dealing with it, but it's a lot different now than when it first happened. It's not as raw, but certain things will still open up the grief wound. I had a hard time seeing all of her things disappear from my Dad's house. The house is so empty now. It's like, there's nothing left. That used to make me angry, but then I was counseled that those were just "things", and her spirit will always be with me. I know this to be true because I get signs from her. Some signs are more subtle than others. I got one today as I was thinking of my Mom, wishing she was with us at the beach today, eating Haagan Daz ice cream as we often did together. Just then, a little bird flew down and landed on our table. It kind of looked at us, hopped across the table and left. These are the kind of signs, that for me, let me know that my Mom is ok and happy, and that she still loves me. I'm sure Stevie will get similar signs from her mother. Stevie seems to be the kind of person to look for them. My heart goes out to her. Jamie

Agreed Dragoon...we know Stevie is aware of how much her fans love her....yet does she really realize the magnitude? I wonder When we say we would do most anything for her, it's true. Every solo album, every Mac song...we are healed and happy people because of them. And when life is going in a great direction, the words make it all the better. At this point in her life, I imagine a massive circle of us, her fans, and Stevie sitting somewhere in it with us; smiling at us, laughing, seeing how we know the lyrics better than she does ...her eyes growing sweet and wide over how much we know about her past...the expressions on her face She'd cry over reading everything we the fans write about her and would be passing around to her. "[She'll] go on forever, [she's] that good"....![]()

As several of you have already expressed so eloquently, this loss is and will be a profound one for Stevie, Chris and the rest of the Nicks family. Although Stevie is a very strong woman and has survived many challenges throughout her life, this loss will affect her in ways that no one can predict.
I lost my mother when I was 8 years old and my father when I was 37. Both were devastating losses and although they made me more self-reliant and spurred me on to many successful ventures in my life, the sense of loss from losing one's parent (at any age) is one that can't even be described to others who haven't experienced it. Then, when you lose your last parent, as one of you said, you feel like an orphan--whether you're a child, in your 20's or in your 60's. There's a sense of abandonment like no other loss can create and the people who knew you best and loved you no matter what you did are now gone (and no one else will ever love you the way a parent loves a child). I've worked as a professional counselor for many years and studied all the stages of death and loss in my graduate programs, helped clients through all kinds of losses, and could even label the stages as I went through them (shock/denial, depression, anger, and resolution) and yet none of that helped when I lost my father. For Stevie, the only thing we can do is offer her our prayers and support during this difficult time. If she needs to take time off from her career to work through her grief, I think we all need to respect her decision to do this as well. She knows how much we all love her and that we'll be here whenever she's ready to come back to us. |

You're welcome, Sara. I wish I could remember where I'd read the marbles story, so that I could point people to the proper source. But there. We get the point. I'm sorry to hear about your husband, too. Peace to you. x

I think she may take a few months off, but these days it seems like performing and being around her fans is more healing when something sad happens to her.... I hope she does take some time to heal, but hopes she doesn't stay away too long.
When her father died in August 2005 she took a few months off and then started performing concerts in Feb 2006. |

I read in an interview, which I cannot find now, that the first several concerts she did after her father's death, were the hardest thing she ever did. And her mother was there to help her through it. This time....................................... |

It is great that so many of us are sharing their experiences about loosing beloved people and family members, i am not really over loosing my grandma and great uncle as well and it is good to read the metaphers and storys of all of you. But i guess you re never really over that. Stevie has still family around her like her brother and jessica and i bet they will help each other to cope with it. She and her family are in my thoughts and prayers . |

I agree with everyone that there will be a rash of writing, but I don't think most of it will show up on any Fleetwood Mac album....I can't help but feel Stevie will save most of this material for a solo record. In fact, once the numbness wears off (and if there has already been talks about a new FM album), I could see Stevie asking the band to put that project on hold so that she could go into the studio and get this baby done.
Question is......who would produce it? |
